Any ideas where this steel came from? for sure turning It in it was spittin loose eggs all over the floor and in the live well.

Probably. Also, no sense turning it in. Only adipose clips are tagged. All steelhead planted by the states since 2018 are adipose clips. Goes to show what I've been saying that many of our steelhead are a lot older than most, including our dnr, think.

Summer run, but not summer spawning. That fish has probably been holding eggs.

Those eggs dont look right to me. Like they're super soft. Not firm and healthy. IDK maybe just they way they look from here.
Can you hold them in your hands or do they like melt and turn to mush?

 

It’s because that hen is “over ripe”, and has carried those eggs too long.

 

Well it just wasn't in the cards for us this trip. Today we went east of the point out to 110 feet and found 50 degrees 95 feet down. Bait and marks looked good and as we set lines we were completely infested with flies. I mean it was bad and I really don't mind insects that much but the whole boat, gear and people were practically furry with them. You could not breathe without a mask on. know at one point I had thousands of them dead and dying just on me. My poor wife handled it like a champ but I don't know how. After a couple hours of that we called it quits and were 0/1 on the day. Came home and showered off a few hundred dead, mashed flies.

 

Those dang flies are the worst, especially when the fish don’t cooperate. Good for you guys for sticking it out that long.

 

It’s bad enough fishing roll over conditions but then to have to deal with that somethings sometimes just aren’t worth it if you only knew ahead of time been there done that !

 

Damnit. At least yesterday was no bugs and clean cooler ice.

 

The eggs were firm enough to clean up with a rag and have them stay together + I may or may not have hit my buddy with a few and confirmed their ‘bounciness’.

Looks like it does have an adipose clip, just not a very complete one.

We trolled 12-6 yesterday afternoon and struck out. Stayed in 50'-60' most of the day east of the point. water temp on top was 70 everywhere we went. Marked lots of fish suspended around 30' but no takers. Nice afternoon to be out.

 

We went out of Harrisville Saturday 6-9am and headed north out to 70. Marked alot of fish in between 15 to 30

down and also fish on bottom. Set a 5 color with a mixed veggie copper back spoon and it wasn't 5 minutes we had a walleye. Nothing the next hour til a rigger went close to bottom in 80fow with a sunshine squid. Nice steelhead on that. So we ended 2-2.

 

Went out Saturday out of Oscoda and ended up with a walleye and an Atlantic on bloody nose off a rigger slider in 130ish. Sunday got a couple hours in before the storms with my dad and picked up some lakers down deep on green jeans.

The Atlantic was 30 inches long and clipped. Excited to see where he was from

 

That Atlantic is beautiful. Hope you're considering a mount or replica.

We did very good going out of Northport today. 3 to 4 miles out, fishing the bottom at 1.5 mph with bottombounce/spinner/crawler rigs.

Some Walleye, Steelhead, Coho and a Laker last two days out of Tawas. 100'+ water. Temp break was 70 yesterday, 75' today in 110' of water. Wire diver's, slide diver, riggers. Moonshine Agent Orange best today. Not much action with steel and copper on board's. We were a LONG way out SSE.

 

Off shore wind helping. 50 degrees down 50 feet in 65 feet of water between Tawas and Charity Island. Walleye and Steelhead bit today before wind kicked up. Tomorrows BIG west wind should really help.

 

Any recent reports out of Tawas? I was thinking about heading up in the morning?

 

You might want to check the winds, marine forecast depending on how far your traveling

Was hoping for some silver fish reports. Sorry, should have been more specific.I have the eyes down here in AuGres.

 

Took a Coho a week ago out deep. 100ft

 

There’s salmon in the Au Sable, so silver should be around out there somewhere. The AS kings definitely weren’t silver lol

 

Fishing has picked up here over the last week. Thursday got a limit of nice eyes and a laker of all things in 70-80 fow.

Then today Mike Ed and I picked up 2 small kings (4 and 8 lbs), a nice steelhead and 6 thick walleye in 80-90 fow. Fish have ranged from 7 color through 300 weighted steel, riggers down 60-80 and divers out
200 -240 on 2.5 setting. Speed was 2.8-3.2. Blue dolphin, pox and carbon 14. Walleye were puking up smelt in the cooler.
