Figured we’d better get this going. No report from me yet, I’m stuck on land waiting for a new impeller to get here. I did see two boats fishing off the mouth of the Tawas River this morning. No dock in yet and ice on both sides of the launch but there is just enough space to wedge a boat in there. There is still solid ice from about Walmart east to Jerry’s and there are chunks of ice floating west and south of there so you really have to watch the wind. Anyway I’m excited to get this going for hopefully another fun year.

Have any idea whats up with the sail boat thats been sitting in the harbor all winter Andy? I heard they had trouble last fall and it didn't get pulled. I noticed it the day after I met you out there to go ice fishing, but I did hear about it earlier in the winter.
Wow. Didn’t notice it was still there. Hopefully the bay bubblers protected it a bit.

In on the first page! Will be May at the earliest before I can make the trip but looking forward to getting out there again this year.
👀 Hi Andy! Will be following along and participating when I can.
Looking forward to your reports guys. The way the weather is looking it might be May before we can get after it. Lol

Do you guys think I could get out there with my 14' startcraft right now? I don't know how close the fish are in this time of year.
Spent many springs and falls for that matter in only a 14 footer. You’ll be fine inside the bay as long as you’re paying attention to the wind which I know you will be.
unfortunately lots of ice still floating and moving daily. Checked Oscoda this afternoon and it’s clear with one dock in. I’m getting back injections tomorrow morning, if I m feeling alright I might try it up there in the afternoon.

Thanks Andy and everyone for all the updates. Very excited to see this thread renewed for 2022. I'm waiting for my health issues to improve before I can get out to the barn and get this years updates and maintenance items done on the boat. Was hoping for a mid to late April trial run but I just found out that I have some serious Internal Medicine issues that the specialists are working on. Not "critical" serious (yet) but scary enough to get this 59 year old's attention and delay my ability to work on the boat. I'll be following this thread and most of the others just to cheer you guys on. I was able to update my towing rig (again) to something even more capable with no frame issues and plenty of power. Its a 2006 Dodge Dakota TRX4 with the 4.7L High Output V8 and the sturdy improved "Off Road" package which should take the old boat pretty much anywhere I want as often as I want.

Man I’m really sorry to hear that ETW. Take care of yourself and hopefully you can be back out there before you know it. PM anytime you want an update and especially before you get back up here. Take care!

We can’t get into our rental house until 4 PM so we are just stopping by a Bayside park next to downtown Sarasota. Started chatting with a guy sitting on a bench from Michigan. He said he was from Tawas.. I said that’s funny I was just reading about a guy from Tawas named Andy Otto. The guys wife speaks up and says that Otto is not his last name that’s his son’s nickname. Andy Otto is his handle. She says he fishes just about every day. I said I know! She said he’s a super nice guy. I said I’ve never met him but I could tell he’s a great guy. View attachment 823514
That’s hilarious what a small world! Yes Otto is my oldest son. When I joined the site way back when he was little I asked him what name I should use and he said Andyotto so there you go. Make sure you tell them hi from me if you happen to run into them again.
Btw I don’t quite fish every day but she’s not to far off. Lol
Have a great time down there. Winter has decided to come back here so enjoy it while you can.

For some reason the DNR fishing report said the Tawas City (River mouth) dock is in but as of this afternoon it wasn’t.

That last wind storm pushed it back in. The pier is open and there were some guys out there today.

You should be good to go. Maybe try the new pier as well. Should be good colored water up close to the river. I think I’m going up to Oscoda with the boat.
