I ordered the Winfred about 11pm Tuesday evening......it now sits on my desk Thursday afternoon at 3pm.
Amazing!

An alternative worth googling or Youtubing:
Rather than 'over the shoulder bag'.......consider a barrel-type spreader. You have shoulder straps, to be sure, but the container sits in front of your chest.

I suggest it as I have owned both...the bag and the barrel....and much preferred the barrel.
In fact, I bought it years ago from a poster on this Deer Habitat forum. It has worked great for near 15'sh years(?). Several tons of fertilizer and seed have passed through it. And I frequently lend it out each season to friends. Still works great.

This is the only pic I could find. From the retailer, Gemplers.

Have one and love it for fertilizer and grains! I prefer the bag spreader for the tiny seeds, but the bucket spreader is awesome for the bigger stuff

I should have tried out the bag spreader before I gave it away. LOL. I have planted many…many acres of clovers and brassicas with my bucket spreader.

I’m not saying the bucket spreader won’t work for the small stuff, but a) I find it easier to control the opening setting with the bag because it has an adjustable stop and b) it isn’t too often I need 15 lbs of tiny seed in one plot…so a lighter spreader is nice once in a while.

I go even smaller then my bag spreader for tiny clover and brassica seeds. I use one of these. I like the the control and seeing how fast that tiny seed is being used.

I use one of these.
Yeah, me too. Not the same, but similar.

For clover, alfalfa, and turnips, rape......I find it gives me more control.

I use the 'drum'-type for wheat/rye/fertilizer/radish/millet

I bought seemingly the same one this spring off Amazon. Used the smallest opening, #1, I thought it was pretty big for clover (frost seeding). Any trick to it?

Walk faster if it’s over seeding or slower if it’s under seeding? Or adjust the gate on it. Every person covers area at a different pace and spins the handle at a different rate…..boils down to doing what it takes for you to cover x amount of ground with y amount of seed….

I might have to run, lol. The smallest opening isn't that big but the seeds are small. I don't think it adjusts to 1/2 increments or anything which would be ideal. If it works for others perhaps my seed wt to plot size is off.

I use one in each hand if I need to
Get seed down quickly . Which seam to be more often than not . Lol

You'd be surprised. Even with the smallest seeds I find myself using a bigger opening than I'd think I would. I just start at a brisk walk and adjust my speed as I go, paying attention to how fast the seed is going down. More often than not I find myself with some seed left, at which time I run all over and try to divvy the remainder up as evenly as possible haha.

With the bag though, I can choke it down to the tiniest opening. Interesting that this one seems to work well for most.

Like anything, it’s what you get used to and what works for you. 3 guys can use the bucket, bag and tiny hand spreader and get the same result….just a matter of practice and what works best for them. Best advice for anyone that gets a new spreader…try to plant the plot with half the seed needed…then use the other half walking the plot at 90 degrees to the original…doing this will help you get down your seed rate and used to your spreader and fill the gaps you likely missed. This works well for even the most seasoned planter as we all inadvertently miss a spot or 2 and the second pass usually covers our sins. The bigger the plot, the bigger the spreader you want….

I just "feather" the trigger a bit. You just get a feel for it after a while

Gotcha. I was playing with it a bit yesterday, press an release press release wondering how that might work. I'll figure something out.
Maybe go with corn...

I bought Bayou Kale from Merit 2 months ago to add to the mix. Had to order some Winfred the other day.
