Good question. The fish that we've caught are acting like they haven't got going yet but then on the other hand we're catching Smallies like crazy which doesnt usually happen till later in the season and the guys Perch Fishin' in Erie off Colchester are catching 'Eyes along with the Perch, showing that the fish are out there aswell. It's deffiantly a bit of a messed up year.

When you find out the answer let me know.....:dizzy:

There is no question that it is a tough bite, but they're in there......Prime times are changing, and you have to catch the bite at those optimal times. Caught 5 last night on the canadian side, and watched a guy limit out in back of me in 1 pass using live bait. I went over those fish with plastic and got a couple and he was nailing them:dizzy:.......Typically, this time of year, all you need is Plastic, but it seems live bait is the scent of choice so far......

If its not me, then disregard first sentence........:lol::yikes:

The bite is a little odd this year. I have limited all but 1 time but have worked for them and the other guys on my boat have not got any limits. Usually everyone gets them. Like said a post or 2 up the smallies are in along w/ the white bass or 2. I usually have weeks of good walleye fishing b4 those other fish move in. I would say that the walleye this year are running bigger than last 2 yrs.... Maybe they are a little more wiser/ pickier.????? Honestly it is nice working for the fish to get your limit. It makes for a short trip getting your limit in 30 min

Just a thought, many many years ago on the SCR out of Algonac long before sonar for fisherman NO ONE was getting any walleye. This was at the time a real problem what with the annual pickeral tournement coming and the overall importance "pickeral" fishing to the area. So they hired a diver to go down and see if there were any walleye there. The report was, there was a ton of walleye AND SMELT. All a hungry walleye had to do was open its mouth and lunch/dinner on demand. I can also remember a year when my partner and I did not catch ONE walleye in LSC, something that was unheard of.

I was kind of looking for a response from Slick or Walleye Mike. :p I rarely fish the river much any more because of all the traffic on the days I have off to go. We usually get our share on the lake without fighting the crowds. I will say that my last trip took 3 fish on live bait but the last 9 were caught on plastics. We both switched over to plastics so I'm not sure if live would have been better but it started out slow so we both switched.

Man, the last thing I want to hear about is ethical fishing practices. The great walleye fishing we enjoy today is due to stocking & nothing else. For me it's catch & eat baby, by whatever LEGAL means you want to practice. You want ethics, get a Sage fly rod & hit the Ausable. You fish your way & i'll fish mine. I'm gonna' throw some dynamite in the channel! Oh yeah, almost forgot, my method of fishing is better than yours & my boat is better than yours & my everything is better than yours....

I think you missed what I was trying to imply but I must say, you're a funny guy.

I fish Erie more but I am seeing the same thing down here out by Turtle Island. The fish are stacked up here but they are just not biting. And the fish that do bite are all jacks.
So, I went down to the Maumee River and talked to some guys fishing. They said all they were catching was jacks too. My thinking is that all those fish that are stacked are females who still have yet to run the river and spawn. Does that make sense to anyone else?
If this theory is right, does this mean the really good fishing is yet to come?
