Pike Troller, the Ranger VX Deep V has a 22 degrees Dead Rise, according to the Boat Test.com youtube video i watched, can that be right? also the test driver said you need to bunch the VX1888 throttle to get on plane, don't dilly dally accelerating slow and smooth just plow water??
I haven’t look at the hull on one of those, but I would doubt it’s actually a 22 degree hull. It’s probably a progressive design with the very bottom being 22 degrees, but shallower the further outboard you get. If this is the case, for small waves it would act like a steep deadrise, but bigger waves would be pounding the more flat sections.

Because measuring angles on the keel isn’t easy to do, cut some chunks of lumber into some gage blocks for a few different deadrise angles and take them to the dealerships with you to look at boats.

Wow this thread has been worth a million dollars for me - thank you all for your tremendously informative dialog.

I've just purchased a home on LSC and starting to plan for being an avid fisherman! Truth is I've mostly been a wannbe fisherman for the past 25 years since I sold my boat and moved to Michigan. Most of my fishing has been with guides, and some occasional bank fishing wherever I could.

Now as I near retirement I'm gearing up to pursue my life long love of fishing on a more regular and self guided basis. Knowing the cost of boats, just the thought of beginning to study features and benefits has been overwhelming not wanting to make an expensive mistake. What I've learned just reading this thread has been incredible. You dont know what you dont know, and Deerslayer's opening questions alone opened my eyes, along with all the great dialog that has followed. I feel like I've gained years of experience and wisdom without actually having any experience! Thank you all so much!

Catfish,

I am glad you are enjoying the Thread! I am learning a lot too. From What I have gathered, there is no perfect fishing boat. Just have to shop and compare, determine what will work best for you, in your budget. I am still undecided, in process of getting several quotes from local boat dealers and keeping eye out on several FB Market Place Walleye Groups if anything comes up for sale I like.

My last boat was bought off a walleye site, a multispecies boat from a guy in Wisconsin. I strongly suggest you consider a used boat that's fully rigged, like I did. I still changed things out and customized it bit by bit to suit me. Sold the kicker, upgraded electronics, etc. Down side is you'll have to travel some and have faith the seller is being straight but there are lots of good setups and deals to be had, if you are patient and narrow down your choices, as you're already doing.

All the boats you are considering are great boats. And - you are right there is no perfect boat, only perfect for your needs and budget. Enjoy boat shopping and hope you find what you want.

Think I mentioned it on here already too but traveling to bordering states can be worth the drive itself in $ saved...
Buddy traveled to Pennsylvania to get his and saved big compared to what it would've cost here for same boat ;)

I can’t speak from first hand experience but a couple guys in our group bought new boats this year one a Lund 1875 impact and the other bought the Ranger aluminum not positive on the model but it is an 18’ Full windshield and believe it or not the guy with the Lund openly admitted the Ranger Rode considerably better and to me the fit and finish looked great on the Ranger I’d suggest looking into them they are very competitive price wise and it was a very sharp boat

if garage kept with no modifications to house the motors 18 foot. id make the garage bigger now before you get a 20 or 21. without the breakaway trailer nose you'll probably need 10 feet to have adequate space. and possibly redo the garage door.

Does anyone own or fished out of Larson Deep-V Glass Walleye boat before? What did you think? They are owned by Polaris. I own a Polar Ranger Side by Side excellent quality UTV. I like the fishing layout of these boats.

Boattrader.com, but there was a better site i used when I was searching for a small boat that had better search options. Could look for certain brands only, search within a price range, search with size range, glass or aluminum, search by area, or within certain distance of a zip, etc. Lotta boats in Wisconsin and Penn.

I can tell you thru experience if your looking to get a Lund on a site like Craigslist and you see what you want act quickly they go fast.
Spent a couple years looking and would wait to long on deciding once I seen a boat and it would be gone. Most other brand/mfg did not sell as quickly from my experience. But this was my first boat so it was a little tougher
doing this for the first time. And I agree there is no perfect boat.

Seen a little talk throughout this thread about alumacraft, I bought a trophy 205 with a 200 etech g2, love it. If you go that route let me tell you this, if you want to stay out of jail DO NOT DEAL WITH ANDERSON BOAT SALES IN WATERFORD!

Been fishing St Clair my whole 60 yrs. One thing I can say with absolute certainty, A riveted boat, ANY riveted boat will develop weeping rivets within 5 years of the steady hull torquing that the exceptionally steep waves of St Clair put on a boat. Unless one only goes out on weekdays, or is off the water before 11 on weekends, and never goes out if the wind is over 10mph.
