I don’t have nearly the experience the others have in regards to boats since I’ve only owned one for a few months now LOL. But I’m 60 I have 1775 Impact XS which is smaller than what you have been looking at.
I needed to stay at 40k in regards to budget
which I did and the boat is loaded. I love the Impact so far the jump seats have worked out great for me, I sit in the back control my Ulterra from there and able to see the Helix on the consul while I’m trolling. Needed to make sure the wife was comfortable as well
so had to have a full windshield and sports top they were a must LOL. One thing I would say tho is the Pro V is a nicer boat but it’s at a cost, I know when looking at one a couple years ago it is was 10k more the 1875 XS.
So that would probably mean in today’s market your well into Mid to the upper 60k which was way over my budget. The other reasons I went with the 1775 XS it fits my 21’ garage plus I wanted something easy to manage and tow since I fish most of the time by myself or with the wife and we are planning on taking it to our yearly trips to Canada.
Not sure if you were considering the Ulterra
but at my age it’s sure nice not having to deploy and stow that thing. But sounds like you cast most of the time and are much younger than myself so maybe that’s not a real issue for ya.
Good luck on your choice I’m sure whatever you decide on you will be happy..

When budgeting for a new boat, take whatever number is your hard stop upper limit and multiply by 75%. So if you have a hard stop at $50k, 75% of the is $37.5k. That will be your target for an advertised boat price which doesn’t include sales tax, dealer rigging & prep fees, and the destination fee. Some dealers will freely give you an out the door price if you ask, while others it may take awhile talking with a sales guy to get to that point.

Then you’ll need to add a trolling motor, decent electronics, batteries, on board charger, and probably a few other accessories. Add all this up, it will prob be around 25% of your total cost. If you add a kicker, then it will be a bigger chunk of the total.

Does anyone own one of these New Ranger Deep-V Aluminum Boats? I am a little wary, being Ranger was bought by Johnny Morris and Bass Pro shops. Looking online the VX Series 1888 and 1788 WT are just loaded with great features and a great price, compared to the Lunds Pro-V Impacts, Crestliners Fish Hawk Raptors, and Alumacrafts Trophy T-Pros. Anyone own or fished out of one, what did they think of experience/quality/layout??? Ranger VX Series standard double axle trailer, hydraulic steering, unique bow row storage, little convenience features built in standard: phone holder and chargers, tool holders, and coolers.

To compare how well boats handle chop on paper, look up the deadrise angle. A larger number means a sharper V that will cut through waves better. A shallower V will pound more than cut through the waves. But a deeper V will also list side to side more as well, but reverse chine designs try to minimize this. Generally true deep V designs start with a deadrise of 17-19 degrees or higher. There are many boats on the market that people refer to as deep Vs that are actually much shallower in the 12-15 degree range. A bonus with th shallower deadrise boats is because of the shallower draft they require, you need much less water to float them off a trailer than a true deep V.

I know most will bash a nitro for being a "BPS tracker" product but my next boat will be a nitro zv20. The only thing I don't "like" about them is the carpeting, but it is padded. There are very few complaints on the nitro zv line of boats out there.

I like how the zv20 is set up for what I do. Tracks for trolling and a nice front deck. But it all depends on how you want to fish.

There is no universal boat that is the answer for everything. It's all a pros n cons list.

I looked at them at the boat show and was not impressed. The layout was good but the quality was questionable. I didn't like the welds and the paint at the seams of the panels was chipping already and the aluminum seemed to have some corrosion starting already. There are some negative reviews out there as well.

And the deeper the vee the slower the boat. A glass Pad Vee is the best of both worlds. I have an 18'6" boat with crazy deadrise' it has a 25" transom despite the 9" pad to get it out of the water at speed. Rides great, runs efficiently.

There are two 18’ 1/2 glass boats in Michigan in the Walleye Central classifieds today. A Yarcraft and a Ranger Reatta. Might be worth a look if they are close.

Sledman,

Do you fish LSC, Erie?. How does the Impact 1775 handle the Big water chop and Boat wakes?

Thanks,

Mike
I have not fished Erie, LSC so far has not been a problem it handles boat wakes it’s a dry ride that’s for sure. I don’t plan on fishing on real windy days and do most of my fishing during the week. It will hit 43 tho
I rarely if ever have the throttle all the way down 20 to 25 is fast enough LOL.

I dont think anyone is going to pay those prices etec kills the resale on that ranger and 36 k for an 8 year old yarcraft at the end of the season.

Those are both 30k boats

I never claimed they were good deals. I sold a 2003 619 with a 200 opti and kicker for $25000 in 2018 that would blow either of those models away if ride , storage , and fish ability were the top priority. Asking price is a start any way. I felt it would simply be a good way to look at the layout of those models if they were close to the OP.

The used market can save you thousands if you no what you want and are prepared to buy today if the right deal pops up.

That Alumacraft Comp 205 has been up there for a long time. It looks too good to be true until you get to the end of the add where it says it’s been used as a guide boat for two seasons. It’s got the hours and wear & tear of a 10 year old boat at least.

.. unlike paul..i am not a fan of vexus...not enough rear cockpit space for my fishing style... lund glass has changed makers, countries etc so often tough to tell what you get in a lund fiberglass...if you are not an experienced boatsman you will take water over the bow in most rangers... skeeter makes a nice boat and automatically you get a yammie engine..the 1910 wx is a consideration....yarcraft are well built..less stylish, but a great ride... warrior is the cadillac..but you will pay..was out of green bay in nasty weather with a friend the warrior made me feel quite comfy... issues with larson.love their process, just not crazy about their interiors.....recon,phoenix not really suited for our waters...tuffy? i love their construction they are reasonable(price) but again cockpit is small too much front deck for my style... i currently run a triton 186 fishhunter..has served me well.
Bill, the big dance floor up front is precisely why I went with the 1860VS instead of the Reatta. I spend more time on the bow than in the cockpit. And with the helm further back, the ride is smoother. I still have plenty of room to walleye troll with 3, but if a muskie comes aboard someone has to go to the bow. Triton was always on my list. but I never spent much time on one.

IF- God forbid anything ever happened to my beloved 1860VS, this is what I'd get. Vexus is the company that the top engineers and management from Ranger started up after Johnny Morris cleaned them out to bring in cheap, inexperienced, inept help.
(Forrest himself was even involved until his passing)

That’s a very nice looking boat

Pike Troller, the Ranger VX Deep V has a 22 degrees Dead Rise, according to the Boat Test.com youtube video i watched, can that be right? also the test driver said you need to bunch the VX1888 throttle to get on plane, don't dilly dally accelerating slow and smooth just plow water??
