What did I see jumping in the SCR this weekend?

Fished from above ASP to Middle Channel this past weekend without a bite (wait, we did get one Gobie). threw everything I knew to throw at them. BB's, Cranks, spoons and trolled from 1.5-3.5 mph. But being new to Walleye fishing I'm not too surprised though thoroughly discouraged.
What has me wondering is what kind of fish jumps straight up out of the water clearing its whole length and straight back down. I saw it twice while out there. At first I thought it was a Sturgeon because it was so huge. Then after seeing it happen later in the day, not as big, I thought they must of been Musky because they were long much like a Pike. Any idea's?

What time of day and which days were you out on the river? Friday and Sunday evenings were both pretty good, but Saturday evening I got a skunk too but probably could have still got some if I took the bottom bouncers out. If you want to head up here again and have room for an extra rider, I could probably put you on some fish.

Thanks Piketroller. Yeah, it was Saturday from 2pm to dark. Lot of boat traffic, wow. My sister loves to fish but does not like to be out when it gets dark. She goes back to work next week then I will have room for a second person. Being retired I try not to fish on the crazy busy weekends. Its almost a two hr drive one way so I don't come out to the Bluewater area often though I love it there. The dirty D and Sterling State park is half the distance for me and even then I have to watch the wind having only a 16 footer. I'd love to fish with someone that can show me what I am doing wrong

On the weekends, things wind down sooner on Sunday than Saturday, and by the last hour of light on Sunday, the river is emptier than on a weekday evening. A two hour drive each way sure is a long way to come when we’re not getting a least a limit per hour. Tonight the bite was hot. Landed ten walleye and two smallmouth in two hours, and lost or missed close to ten others. But this was not a typical summer night, but still got off the water at the first mosquitoe sighting at 8:30.

Ha, you're right johnr, that's why they call it fishin not catchin :') I'm not so much new to fishing but to fishing big water. Guess there is a lot of nuance involved to doing it right (successfully) of which I am not learning on my own the few times I get out. Fishing for the sport of it (tricking Bass to believing my artificial lure presentation is real and hitting it is where I got my fun). This type of fishing is more... serious. It's more for getting some good meals out of it, where before it was always Catch and Release.

Thanks PT. The water IS so big I don't know where to start. Using the fish finder can help to find suspended fish and depth but on a river you are past them before you know it and on the lake who knows what kind of fish they are. Someone said fish the falling pressure is the best which is proven true but we can't always do that. (I love the Weather Underground 10 day forecast for their barometric forecast). Last Saturday must have been just after a low front with it rising. That seems to be the WORST time but I came too far not to try and fish it anyway.
