Trolling motor questions

Now that fall is on it's way, I'm looking to finally get my boat rigged with a trolling motor. I've got the 24 volt setup and have been looking at the power drive 70 from minnkota. Do any of you recommend this motor? Is it worth the money to get the co-pilot for a 16' open tiller style boat? It will be used mostly for river jigging. Also, I've got a nice Garmin unit on the back of the boat, in your opinions would it be beneficial to have the US2 option to possibly put another graph at the front of the boat or because it's only 16'long I'd get interference between the 2 fish finders. Thanks in advance!

Cool, thanks for the quick replies! I like the idea of i-pilot but wasn't sure it would be worth the 300 or so dollars, sounds like it probably is. As far as the front graph goes, I guess it would be more for the wife or a fishing buddy, I like to sit my fat butt right back in the stable part of the boat and be comfy! That feeling may change as I learn to jig fish. How is boat control from foot pedal to remote? My thoughts were at least with foot control, my hands would be free for other more important chores such as netting a fish, holding a miller, or eating snacks. Is the remote cumbersome with gloves on for you early/ late season fishermen?

You'll control the boat better the closer you are to the TM.

For walleye fishing the remote is better. Unless your hands are freezing. The foot pedal design sucks, IMO. I liked the simpler old style. I still use foot pedal for jigging musky where I'm setting the hook with both hands but remote for walleye.

You'll come to find the remote is handy for doing all the other stuff. You can set a heading and speed and just let it do its thing. At least then you're not spinning in circles.

i hang mine around my neck mostly..on its lanyard.it goes with me wherever i am in the boat so i always have control(something a foot pedal never offers) ..if you fish alone it helps if you dont notice something til the last second..shore, bar, log..etc..i have but one good hand and the buttons are clearly marked and its a man size remote(you can also get a smaller fob) so easy to hit whichever button you want

I use Legacy Autopilot all the time on my Terrova for jigging. It keeps the head pointed in the right general direction regardless of the boat orientation. I then make small adjustments to the speed and direction to keep my line vertical. If I get distracted while baiting, netting, retying, etc, the boat remains under control. I used to swear by my cable steer trolling motor for jigging, but I now like my Terrova better. It is clear that cable drives provide the best control when properly attended, but it requires constant attention, is inflexible on location in the boat, and does not work as an autopilot for trolling.
