Shoud I call a CO ?

Had my neighbor and her 30 year old son come strolling up the edge of our land the other night about 5pm, whispering and looking up at our pines, I suspect looking for me. When they got in front of me at 20 yards I said " Hell of a time for a stroll in the woods ! " Instead of backing back out they started talking louder and coughing loud too. They continued to walk up to the end of the corn about 150 yards, mill around at the end then continued their rude behavior when they walked back past me. Last year they tore some of my No Trespassing signs down and I called a CO but nothing happened to them. But this time the dummies walked past my trailcam ! I'm just a little worried their next step is loosing bolts on my ladder blinds. They're next door and a little unstable, if ya know what I mean, won't talk to us, they have cwp's and carry and the wife is worried for my health. I know they don't have permission to be on the land they were walking on since I had just talked to the farmer last week. I know the answer but they're a bit scary !

I have to believe that a good portion of these neighborly disputes that get posted so often on here are bilateral issues.

Many would be surprised by how walking next door, offering a handshake, a cold beer, and a package of snack sticks fosters good will. That avenue might be more productive than getting to know your neighbors from up in a tree

I have a feeling that Marty H is not the problem, his wacky neighbors are. But you are welcome to put the blame on him if you want. It's funny that you didn't catch that these people were trespassing on a farmer's land and engaged in hunter harassment.

It always amazes me that when a person is being bothered by someone, there will always be that guy that says it must be because of something he is doing.

I think the CO would take the harassment claim more seriously if the complaint is filed in person, but that’s just my opinion. If I felt as strongly as you do that this was going to escalate, I would file a report so the foundation for future action is laid and then put a camera on your stand in case they continue doing this or tamper with anything.

The landowner is the only person that can do anything about the trespassing but he can use your camera pic as evidence when making his own claim.

Make should you are only giving 100% facts during your complaint. You called it ‘rude behavior’ in your post. I think that added commentary undermines your complaints. Facts and evidence. Film them next time.

I do agree with No-bama that you probably deserve this from them, though...what with you trying to hunt your land and all. What did you do to this lady, Marty? Maybe something at a party 36yrs ago? Hmm?? :tsk:

Amen to that!

Are they addicts?
My son went through having rotten neighbors not hunting though, complined to the township and sherrif, several times, they finally went to jail for all sorts of suspicious activities and ordinance issues and had an arrest record a mile long!

There is no deer or hunting activity worth it!

If you personally know anyone in law enforcement, call them and get their opinion!
If not call any way, to all those in jurisdiction of the area! Make a loud noise so they get a few visits from the authorities!

Good luck, nothing worse than not feeling safe on your own property!

If you can identify the people and have them on trail cam; the farmer would need to file charges for trespassing. Hunter harassment in this case seems harder to prove without video.

"I'd call, show the pic to the CO and start a timeline for future harassment issues."

And make sure to have a way to record them when this happens, again, as it will. Make sure you get to know the CO and explain the situation so you have a clear path forward before this escalates, as it will.

My BIL got beaten brain dead by his daughter's boyfriend. Kid threatened to do it several times but no one bothered to call the police and make a record of it. Took pre-meditation in any charge off the table and about 15 years off his possible sentence.

Is the farmer the land owner ? Are you positive ? If yes, do you know for sure that these people were never given permission to walk the property by the wife or adult children who might be co-owners ?
Do you have a hunting lease from the land owner ? Did you get permission to post the property from the land owner ?

Of course it is but if the property can't be used for what its intended use is, why own it and continue to pay taxes on it? He states he knows he should call the law but he is concerned about the reaction from the trespassers & harassers. Thats no way to go thru life.

I'm sorry you don't care for a few of the post but you post on a public forum about a problem you are having, asking for opinions on what to do, stating you already know the answer. What were you expecting, anyhow? Is great you are taking some actions and maybe it will get the results you desire.

Some people are stupid, and don't know it, as no one bothered to ever point it out.

Some people are stupid, and don't know it, as there's never been repercussions of them being stupid.

Hopefully the folks you're dealing with are enlightened.

Still, check where you park from now on. Seem to be the kind that would slash tires.

If they were on someone's property they have no permission to be on I would think you would have a good case for hunter harassment. If they have permission, then you may have an uphill battle. In either case you'll never know what may come of it if you dont call.
