Season's End

The dogs and I finished the upland season the past two days chasing roosters down state. Due to an intense "family orientated" December, my grouse season has been over for quite some time. Both dogs will turn three years old in the next few months. They improved leaps and bounds over last season. It was really great to see things start to come together.

I am starting to get into chasing pheasants down here. I've been exploring a lot of state land and even secured one private spot. I ended the season on public land and saw enough birds to make me excited for next season. Went home empty handed today, but knocked down this guy yesterday.

Brad, you're obviously working your dogs waaaay too hard!

Any pheasant bagged on Michigan public land is a true trophy--congrats!

Brad,

Congrats, on the bird and the fact that you were able to get out, and do some hunting.

I was going to go yesterday, but things didn't turn out the way I planned.

Brad ....nice looking setter....but what breed is the dog on the right?
Red Setter....or Irish Red Setter or Irish Setter

Whatever technical name you want to call her she is a field bred Irish Setter.
She is registered as an Irish Setter with FDSB. There is a group called the National Red Setter Field Trial Club that promotes a breed standard based on performance and not so much appearance. Their goal is to breed dogs that resemble the original parent stock from Ireland.
