I bought a Ruger AR 5.56 with an 18 inch barrel a couple of years ago. It's still new in the box, haven't had time to shoot/set it up. I'm contemplating a vortex strike eagle 1x6 scope for it. Anyone familiar with the performance of this rifle? Could I get 3" groups at 150 yards? If so I think I may want to go with a 1x8. Looking to get an opinion if the 1x8 may be overkill for this rifle. Thanks for the replies.

As with any rifle it will depend on luck of the draw and the specific ammunition or handloads you use in it. Regardless I would get the scope you want on it whether it shoots 2 moa as you say or slightly over or under.

Sold my Ruger with a 2-7 on it last year it was a grouping was dependent in your shooting style. Most of the rounds I put through it was at 100 yards or less and it would group around 1-1.25” but when others would shoot it they tend to have the AR trigger finger and groupings would be 6-12”. The only thing I did not care for on the Ruger was the bolt carrie, other than that it was a good shooting rifle.
