Pflueger Trion 1978 Reel Repair

I was given a Pflueger Trion 1978 Reel as a gift. It didn't get used until a year after I got it. On the 1st cast, the counter-weight flew off and I wasn't able to find it.

It seems like the counter-weight just screws on. I am guessing it just wasn't screwed on tight at the factory and between wherever in China it was assembled and its first cast at Green Cottage, the counter-weight just came loose.

The question. Can I just order anew counter-weight from Pflueger or is there more involved than just screwing it on to properly secure the counterweight? Basically, will I need to send it to the factory to get it fixed???

Thanks!

Have you contacted Pflueger about this? I'm not sure what'd be involved, but I'd start with them directly. They're a good company and should want your business. See what they can do for you.
Thanks. I sent them an email today with my name and address and the problem I am having on teh particular reel model.

I am hoping they'll just mail me a counter-weight that can be screwed on by hand. I would guess they cost less than it would cost me to ship the reel to them for repair.

I'll post here what outcome results. :)

I sent Pflueger an email 2 weeks ago. They never responded.

I called them today. They don't have the part (a simple counterweight) - I guess that's to be expected seeing as how the reel is made in Korea.

I have to send them the reel and they'll see what solution they can devise. If the "repair" will cost more than the value of the reel, they'll sell me a replacement reel for a 45% discount. :dizzy:

This is asinine. It will cost $5.00 to ship the reel. The counterweight likely costs $1.00 or less. I have a brand new, $70 fly line on the reel which is going to be a PITA to unspool.

What a PITA. Orvis's Battenkill Mid Arbor is essentially the same reel and they would've sent me a new counterweight no questions asked.

I am done buying foreign made fly reels. Ross, Bauer, Tibor, Abel, etc. would have solved the problem immediately. UGH. The reel was a gift and I shocked that it's counterweight falls off on the 1st cast.

Shame on me that I should have called last year when it happened. But this is ridiculous. :dizzy:
