Keep it up OGB! I havent made it out in the last few days but planning on this weekend. This sickness is still keeping me down a bit but starting to have a little more energy to get out there. Good Luck All!

I went out tonight after work. A few single hens then I saw a tom way down at the other end of the field. He gobbled one time. Thought he might loop around and pop out in front of me but didnt. Saw a group of three hens before dark and that was it. felt good to be out Good Luck All! Havent heard much from you other guys lately...whos out hunting? Hows it going?

Keep on em Dave youll have one in your sights soon! Plenty of time yet.
Awfully quiet in here! Anybody else other than OGB hunting? Would like to hear how its going.
I went after work tonight. I saw 2 single hens. I heard one gobble quite aways off. Im feeling much better now and will be using all my free time from here on out to trying to bag a turk! I have to catch up on the time i lost. Good Luck All!

My bird came in and beat my DSD jake decoy pretty good with another tom. It was a very weird morning, almost no gobbling on the roost and very little after flydown but a few soft yelps coaxed them in. Once I shot him, he took off flying and made it 50 yards over the field before he died. A coyote came out of the woods, saw me standing on the edge of the field, made a mad dash to grab the dead tom and tried dragging it away but dropped it and then took off running. Crazy encounter for sure, he must have been coming in to my calls and then was going to take advantage of the commotion.

I have been taking my father in law who has ALS out. We are limited to where we can hunt but it has been fun. Mostly late morning or afternoon sits. Just haven't found a bird willing to cooperate but we won't give up!

Good luck guys

I saw more birds today than I have all season. Several lone hens this afternoon but this morning I had lots of action with big Tom's and some jakes chasing a group of hens around. If I hadn't been so picky I could have punched my tag but with 3 big mature Tom's out in front of me I decided to just let things play out. Unfortunately they never gave me an opportunity for a clean shot. Hoping they may return to that same area in the morning.

I'm still around guys. I hunted the 1st weekend of season in Michigan and that's been it. 2nd weekend I mentored a Learn to Hunt program and both of my hunters were successful in harvesting their 1st turkeys ever. One of them it was the 1st thing he had ever shot in his life. Pretty cool experience, both 30 year old, high school buddies that are now extremely excited about being hunters. Left that Sunday afternoon for a whirlwind trip to NW Nebraska. That was an extremely tough hunt. Birds on a lot of private ground still where the feed lots were from winter. We got on a few birds but were not able to seal the deal. Now its Michigan's turn. I will be after it til the end. Good luck to all, its only going to get better as we start to see some hens nesting. Off the roost or 9:00-11:00 is going to be key.

Checking in guys...So Sat morning i thought id try to catch those 4 toms right off the roost. Lots of gobbling in the trees and when they flew down they moved off just out of reach for the Xbow (Im by houses) to the east. man i wish I could smoke one with the supermag there! Well that didnt work so i hit a big field surrounded by woods where Ive been seeing birds. Got set up with one hen deke at 9. Within minutes i see a big tom at the far west end of the field by the road. Big bird that looked liked it had a hen or two with it. The wind was blowing pretty hard from the birds to me. I called a few times and none even picked their head up. So i crawled into the woods and looped around to cut the distance in half. From this spot all I can see is the top of his fan. i called again and got a gobble out of him but that was it. Then they disappeared and I figured they went down and crossed the road. Sat till 1:00 with nothing else seen. When i stood up to go there was a big tom right across the field from me, he turned and went the other way....Ugh!
This morning I decided for a go for broke move on the 4 toms. I got in early at 5:30 and they were already gobbling. Tons of gobbles from the roost. I slipped in quietly and sat at the base of a huge oak right on their landing zone knoll. It took forever for them to fly down it seemed. Thought maybe they had spotted me from the tree. Dont think they did though. All 4 land about 40 yrds in front of me and start to group together. They are coming towards me now but there is a small cut that goes downhill to the swamp. they are right on the far edge of that at about 35 yrds and i got em in the scope, almost pulled the trig but they are still angling to me so i wait. Plus i dont want to be chasing one with an arrow in it into peoples backyard either ya know! They get behind some thick stuff and i swing around just a bit to be better lined up when they come out. CLUCK CLUCK! Hen right off my left shoulder saw me move! Toms stop, she circles around in front of me picks up the boys and lead them NE away from me....Ugh!
Hunted another spot till early afternoon with nothing seen or heard...Had lunch with Mom and headed to the back part of the swamp property with the supermag in tow. 5:30 saw one hen and at 7 i had just called and got a gobble. I shut up and waited. After a bit i did a couple soft yelps and he fired off again, sounds like hes coming. Waited but he never did show himself. Pretty thick back there.
I still feel Im gonna get one of those 4 SOB's!
Good Luck All!

Went tonight after work....2 sandhills, a raccoon, a cat, way too many geese, 34 deer (yes i counted em) 8 hens, then finally a group of redheads. I never called once, ambush style. So there were 4 jakes and one longbeard. 3 of those jakes marched right across the field and ended up 5 yrds from me. The other jake and gobbler went down the opposite treeline aways and then crossed the field quite aways down. Maybe T is right....I do suck at this!!:p
