Non resident option for waterfowl license

Does anyone know if the new non resident short duration 3 or 5 day license covers waterfowl? My non resident relative has not been up this year, but probably would only make it up for a few days in a row.

Thanks in advance for saving me a little time.

7 Day Small game will not cover him. You can only purchase additional licenses (waterfowl) on top of a base license. I do not know why it is this way, but I think it was a legislative oversight. I've heard they're working to fix it for next year. Do not plan on buying the 7 day NR small game, as you'll be out $80 when you try to hunt ducks.

That is correct, had a buddy from Indiana come up this week. I was unsure so I placed a call to licensing in Lansing. In order to purchase a waterfowl license you must first buy a base for $151. The 7 day license is only for small game and no other licenses can be purchased without having the base.

Just an fyi, I was a meeting in November that included all of the DNR top officials, including the budget people. They are aware of this issue, and admit it was an oversight of the new license package to not include a shorter option. They are working on a revision to the license package to include a shorter, and more cost-effective option.

What's really odd to me is that none of the "watchdog" groups, conservation organizations, or ANYONE recognized this when the license fee package was being developed because the DNR got everyone involved up front (yours truly reviewed it several times...DOH!). So I guess if there's blame to throw, it needs to go across the board because this was not done in a vacuum.
