I actually took a video…but can’t figure out how to post it here…it was pretty cool, I thought they were going to land in our zone! There was a 3rd plane behind those 2 that was also on the water…

Funny thing is 10 minutes later my 15 yr daughter dumped a drake mallard….so I guess it helped!!

While super cool, definitely VERY illegal there. Must have a minimum altitude of 500 feet except in unpopulated areas, even then one must maintain at least 500 feet from nearest person, boat, structure, etc. That pilot will likely receive a call from the FAA one day.

Kinda cool, had a seaplane nearly squash me in VT (lake champlain) doing that. Have to dig around and find the video of it.

 

Ya water skimming bush wheels is pretty cool, see videos of guys doing it out west and in Alaska. Shi might not quite be the right place for doing it though

i'd be more upset if that went wrong and we had a plane flipped over in the mud holding up hunting that area waiting for an FAA investigation to go on for a week.

The FAA's recommended best operating practice is to ALWAYS fly at least 2000 feet above ground level (AGL) over ALL national marine sanctuaries, wildlife refuges, parks and other noise sensitive environments (see AC 91-36D). This protects both the pilot and nearby wildlife.

Bird strike or engine failure don’t leave many options that low.
I’m a pilot and that’s a dumb stunt during duck season.

not over a refuge. were over a state game area tho. not sure there is any restrictions other than close to a person/hunter. I'm sure they will get talked to but not sure there was anything illegal technically. i'm sure FAA won't be happy about it.

Man just watched the video again and that looks dangerous as hell. They were just beyond the decoy spread! Surely the FAA would be interested in this,can't be many of those types of planes around.
