Looking to rent a row boat for Island Lake Wilderness Area

Hey all,

I am looking to find a row boat for a lake in the Island Lake Wilderness Area. The rental that we are staying at has canoes, but at nearly 70 years old I don't feel comfortable trying to fish out of a canoe. I know that there are places in Curtis that rents boats, I am looking for some place closer and just a basic row boat, since motors are not allowed in the Wilderness area. Thank you and ideas/suggestions !

So this is how the story goes, I called Watson's Marina in Curtis and talked to Frank Watson the owner. I told I was looking to rent a rowboat, he then asked where we staying , and he says your 60 miles away. He says you are in luck the owner of the Forest Glen store was in his shop dropping off a couple of outboard motors that needed repairs. George Whitehead the owner of the Forest Glen store got on the phone and said that he rented smaller row boats, he took my cell phone number and called me back later and verified that he had a boat and trailer for me. The crazy part was that when I Goggled "boats to rent" near Manistique, Watson's Marina was not the first one to be displayed, I really don't know why I called them first and what were the chances that the owner of the Forest Glen store was going to be there when I did call.
Karma !!!

Practice fishing out of a canoe. They are super-versatile boats. If you use a canoe with a wide flat bottom, it will be pretty stable. Narrow/skinny canoes are not as stable.

Here is a cheap function tool that will help you move a small rowboat, or canoe, easily. There are lots of other similar options. I'd prefer balloon tires.
