Hello. Getting close to time to replace my lead acid batteries and looking for experience, and recommendations on Lithiums. I tried the search function and got rc car stuff.
Looks like I started this thread years ago so I’ll chime in. I made the switch to lithiums and am very happy. My original thought was to spend the money on batteries to get more run time instead of getting a kicker motor. Less weight, better weight distribution (under the rod locker vs on the transom), no fuel, less to winterize, etc.
Over time I found that lithiums produce the same amount of power until fully discharge, whereas a lead acid looses power as they discharge. I’m sure the terminology isn’t right but basically throughout the day you need to run your TM on a higher setting to get the same speed as the battery discharges with lead acid.
You also don’t need to do maintenance on lithiums. So no more pulling everything out of my rod locker to get to the batteries
I can troll for walleye for days without draining the batteries. Salmon fishing is much faster speeds therefore draws more amps at a higher speed so don’t get as long, but can still get a full day plus on a charge. I can always charge at night so don’t risk not charging while salmon fishing.
As someone else mentioned you can charge below freezing. Theoretically if it’s freezing out it should be making ice and therefore you can’t fish anyway, but there are always a few weeks where we all get out below freezing.
I run Amped Outdoors batteries with a NOCO charger and have been happy. Search online and you can find discount codes for 10% off.
