How many hunt the largest upland bird?

I was just wondering how many of the upland hunters are going after turkey this Spring? It is a great time of year to get out in the woods during "quiet time" and hearing those gobbles ringing in your ears as you sleep is just a cool experience.

If you have never turkey hunted, I would recommend getting together with someone who has and go have some fun with a group of friends. For you guys that don't like to sit there waiting, don't worry. . .it can by a lot of walking as well.;) Applications are due soon, so get out there by Feb. 1st to apply and get ready to bag that TOM!!!

Warning: If you try it, you'll be hooked. . .proceed with caution!!

I've applied and will hopefully be able to get out with "some of my friends" to bag my first bird. I'm looking forward to adding MI's largest upland bird to my resume. Who knows, maybe I'll get hooked on Turkey Day in April???
It's a blast, Jeff! This will be my 3rd spring, and I am hooked! It is addicting. Especially if you like duck/goose hunting. There is a certain alluring element to it that comes from having to "call" your prey in! Come on spring!!!

I apply every spring. :)
Sometimes I get drawn. :(

The fall season hold no appeal to me as there is always too much going on in my outdoor schedule.

Here's one from last year....I have been spring turkey hunting over here for about 5 years now and it is an absolute thrill. Even my parents, who are in their 60's are addicts now. Our turkey numbers over here are astounding.

I called in and shot this bird on a Friday morning before school started and still made it in to teach my 1st hour class on time. Public land, 22 pounds, all beat up, beard rot, etc...He was an old buzzard.

I'll probably go, but have had lousy luck in the Spring. The Fall season is a different story; I've bagged two --including a nice tom with an 11" beard (archery).

Yup, absolutely love the spring season. What a great time to be afield with a gun in yr hands. I gotta tell ya, its addictive for some folks, once you kill a longbeard that you call in yourself.;) A great combo is to turkey hunt in the morning and then trout fish after lunch.

Headed to Nebraska this spring for a try at Merriams. Cant wait.

I would love to head for another species. . .I think someone said Oklahoma has three different types of turkey. I'll never be like the kid that has like 5 grand slams already, but I'll never have that type of money either.

I took some of the guys from Bow class out to a farm I have permission to hunt for a Bunny Hunt. I knew there were quite afew turkeys there, but there were tracks everywhere! :yikes: One of the guys I was with volunteered to call if I got a tag. So, I went to Gander Mountain, bought an OTC tag for the ZZ hunt, and we're in business. One of the sets of tracks had a heavy drag mark between the strides from the beard. I can't wait. Come on APRIL 17th. :D :D FRANK

Oh yea, bagged a nice gobbler last spring. I always hunt the late hunt and I just put in my days off at work. For those hunting the late hunt, be sure to carry a porous bag with you so that you can hunt those spring morels when your afield hunting turkeys.
This will be my wifes first year turkey hunting. She was instantly hooked when she saw the tom I bagged last year, and as I was explaining how everything went down, I made a couple of sounds imitating a hen sound just goofing around and a couple of turkeys lit up the woods with gobbles. She wanted to start hunting that day. My daughter was there too and she tried to carry the turkey back to the house, and managed with a little help from dad.

Well, I hate to tell you this but you'll have to wait a bit longer. The Over The Counter ZZ hunt doesn't start April 17. It starts May 1.
