I'm possibly moving up towards Columbiaville and wanted to know how the fishing is at the Holloway Reservoir, or if there are any better bodies of water to fish up that way. I'm coming from Sterling Heights, so I'm not familiar at all with the area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's chucked full of smallmouth and walleye and catfish. Limited pike. Decent crappie.

It's a tough lake to fish though and be careful of stumps from November 1st to June 1st when the lake isn't at full level.

Good launch facilities with 5 docks. $55 a year or two free dirt launches.

Opening morning walleye were hungry.

Fishing on holloway is great when you learn it. Big crappie. Lots of walleye. Loads of small smallmouth bass. A 3lber would be a big one on that lake. If you like carp and catfish there are also loads of those. If you want to fish largemouth you can go upriver and fish laydowns. Lots of great banks for that.

The ramp is a $55 a yr non resident fee. It is half that for residents of genesse county. It has a nice access for that price. Gets very busy sat and sunday from memorial day til labor day and will fill up to capicity with a long line waiting for a spot to open.

They lower the water in October and do not start raising it up until around april 15th and typically takes 10 days to reach nirmal levels.

I live 5 minutes from the launch and love fishing it for walleye and smallies out of my kayak! Like Layvon said, it can get crazy once the weather warms on the weekends and in the evenings, but you figure out where and when to go

Fairly nearby cs mott reservoir has similar fishery and is more quiet too, so if holloway is a froth you might consider there.

I've lived about 5 miles from both Mott and Holloway for more than 50 years (Mott hadn't been dammed up back then), and I have a little bit of experience fishing both. When you get up here, drop me a line and maybe we can fish together and I'll show you some spots.

Sounds like a plan! I drove up this past weekend just to check out the area and see the lake. Man did it look beautiful! It was nice to not see a million houses lining the shores, and I loved how you also have the river north of the lake to explore too. Saw lots of kayakers as well, and some boys bowfishing...which is another thing I'll have to get into!

Took the family to Holloway 5/30, got a few hours of fishing in while my daughter took a nap. Trolled hot n tots, bandits, flicker minnows, and reef runners. 2 whiffs and 2 hookups, 1 14 inch walleye on a flicker minnow and the other on the reef runner. Hits came after I upped the speed to 2.2-2.4, along the river channel a lil south of the launch. Water was 62-65 in the main lake and as low as 58 up near columbiaville. LOTS of boats out today, should be insane tomorrow. Bass tourney there this morning, too.

We bassed fished a fair amount the last week and caught couple a couple of nice walleyes inadvertantly each day in 6-8' of water dragging plastics on the bottom. Fish were in he 21-22" range. Only caught one short walleye that was 13". Dark colors like black and blue produced best.
