Going on a fishing trip where its a little warmer but instead of snow, its gonna be raining maybe for 70% of the trip:(. I know in S.E. MI I've stayed on the lake and continued to catch fish, but i dont think it was really pouring.

anyone else ever tough it out and what did you do to stay on the fish?

most likely for fishing techniques for pan fish i'm thinking on using a super bright weighted small bobber that will be almost neutral just so a rain drop wont sink it
or can I continue to cast a jig and fish like normal?

thanks- CJ

Just go fishin!-I've had some GREAT days when it was raining-and I've had some not so good. Just depends on the fish gods.

One day 2 years ago really stands out, I went bass fishing, by myself, from shore and it was on and off raining...hard. I caught 38 largemouth in 2 hours! 4 over 4 lbs. My best largemouth day ever.

Some of my best days on the lake have been during a steady light rain. But one of my best days was about a half hour before a severe thunderstorm. We caught several fish in the 4 to 6 lb range, all on topwater. We got off the lake just as the storm hit. It went from smooth as glass water to 3 ft. rollers in a matter of seconds. I dont recommend this, but we had fun and lived to tell about it.
To answer your question, I believe rain stimulates feeding activity.

There is a theory that the drop in barometric pressure puts less pressure on the bladder of the fish. With less pressure they are motivated or have a urge to eat. Also, anytime it is darker or overcast the fish are going to be more active. They are no longer staying tight to cover and the strike zone expands quite a bit.
Maybe someone with more knowledge on the topic will post???

I would fish!!!

Funny story on this topic. We were catching walleyes pretty good on Lake Michigan, but finding spring nights without big winds and waves made the nights off more prevalent than the nights out there. This just after our third child and I had my vasectomy scheduled for Friday. Well wouldn't you know it Friday night the wind lays down, but they are calling for rain. My brother in law drove up from Indiana and I donned my jock strap, took some motrin, and met him at the exit, greeted by lightning and rain. We waited the lightning out in a car wash bay, and when it fizzled out we launched the boat and motored out onto Lake Michigan. The rain was steady all night, but we hammered the walleyes and both caught our limit and released a few others. I never had the balls to go out again in crappy weather like that again:lol:, but what a night! Here is a pic, notice the grimace and wetness.
