Read the beginning of my Trip here.
After seeing 5 deer on the way up, I had this feeling that this will be the place. The place where things would get better. I was up and on the river by 6 AM at high banks. I caught a couple of smolts and then I set the hook on something. Made a little run and the fly pulled
Now that is a good start for the day. Then I got talking to a pretty nice guy. He told me some pretty cool info. Also, he told me this that I would like to note.
On thursday, a couple of people were down dear high banks where they heard a sqealing and a bang. Some local teens decided to go out and get drunk. Sure enough, they lost control and crashed into the trees. Some of the fisherman rushed up and pulled them out of the car. He told me that if it was not for these guys, those kids would be dead. Great job men
As far as the fishing, I decided to head down river after my dad came down. When I came back, he told me just lost one. Sure enough, he was telling the truth. He lost the fish on one jump. Later that day, a fisheran caught the same fish with the fly. I guess my dad has to go to Northern Outdoorsman knot class. Sorry don, I could not resist.
We then headed up to the meat hole where we pulled smolt after smolt out(released). What a ball. I also got a few suckers. My dad also saw a lock jawed fungi salmon swim up close but he had no interest. We then headed to boy scout camp. Now this was pretty interesting. A fish kept fanning her bed and she had a golden belly. Now I have never seen this and don't know what kind of fish it was. Could of it been a brown, atlantic, THE GOLDEN STEELHEAD
? splitshot, shoeman? i hooked her once but never got her in. I also foul hooked a fish but lost that also. I think my hooking abilities need to be stragthened. Anyways, no other fish were hook.
Fish Runs
Steelhead~Run is getting smaller and smaller. From my view, I think the fish will be there for another month but that will be it.
Walleye are in at the mouth. A guy came back with 4-5 sat night.
Suckers are winding down also.
The smolts are in there badely.
All in all, it was a great trip with a few fish hook and seeing my dad's eye after he hooked a steelhead was unbelieveable. I think we might go back next year when the fish are in thick and maybe he will get his first.
I think it is time to put the steelhead rod away and chase some trout more. I owe it all to the guys from this site, what a trip.
