Has anyone tried using a 5 gallon bucket as a drift sock?An old timer says that`s all you need and don`t bother buying a drift sock.Say`s the 5 gallon bucket does just fine.I`ve had yet to try either one.Looking for some feed back do you use or tried a 5 gallon bucket when drifting?

depends on the size of the boat ..a bucket is a pain it works in a pinch

Get the drift sock. The bucket would work in a pinch on a smaller boat but the sock when not in use stores nicely and won`t take up up space in the boat.

I just started using a sock this year and it blows the bucket away. I didn't want to spend the money for the longest time, but I bit the bullet this Winter and am I ever glad I did. I'll never go back.
i have a bucket i made up with rope and drill a few jholes on the bottom,i also made an rope bridal for it and works fine on my 23 ft boat..

I have used a bucket and it worked ok but i like using the drift socks because i usually forget to pull them and when i take off I have 2 yellow bags flopping around in the wind. I think it looks cool.:coolgleam :fish:

I bought 2 large socks at cabelas on sale for 20 bucks a piece a couple of weeks ago. They were normally 45 bucks. I even got a floater with them for 10 bucks. For 50 bucks I'm set now. I just use one for trolling to slow me down. Works great and folds up and takes up no space. Get the type of sock that opens up by itself. These work great.:p
