Air pockets , small springs

 

Interesting. This is spring fed, but I thought it was only on one end. Are you saying possible multiple springs?

 

I had one come out the shanty hole once , something you're not prepared for.

 

Lake four they will build a house inside your shanty.

 

I don't think the rats make the holes, but they will use them. Usually air pockets or cracks that the water drains off the ice that cause them. I've seen rats sitting by the holes all winter. A lot of times they will store their weed stash right next to them.

 

was there a decent amount of snow on the pond recently? Those look like holes caused water being pushed up from the pressure of the snow
