Dead stick rig question

Whats a good dead stick set up? I put one together hoping it will produce some fish. Just a standard medium action ice rod, 6 pound main with #10 treble and split shot. I put a spring bobber on rod to watch for bites. I plan on using maybe two rods rigged this way one high, one low and plan on jigging with the third rod. Any other suggestions? Or am I set to go?

My rig consists of a small bell sinker clipped to my swivel on fireline main, then about an 18" 10# flouro leader with a #10 treble. I usually run it down until the sinker shows at about 2' off the bottom so its out of the way and my minnow has a huge area to get crazy. I had a fish come up almost 4' chasing a livley min and absolutely hammer it last weekend. My dad just clips a couple of split shots to his treble leader about a foot or so up and a slip bobber. We have caught a LOT of fish on dead stix this season!! Good luck....

Could you put a picture up of it? I always like adding ideas to the box. Thanks

I can guarantee you will do better if you jig with two rods and use one dead stick. I don't know why guys don't like to jig with 2 rods? I like to set up my vex only watching my right hand lure, and use a different lure on my left.

I've caught walleye perch and whitefish on my dead stick. I have been using a standard pier rig with a perch sinker but many times I find myself pulling the sinker off the bottom so the minnow doesn't rest on bottom.

I think a piece of shot is the ticket. Suspend that hook just off bottom to stick it in their face.

I will also bust the air bladders on dead minnows and toss them down for chum..

I like to use a little northland glo spoon, hook minnow through the back.put a bobber stop on line and a foam ice buster bobber.set minnow about 8in off bottom.set rod over a bucket and leave the bail open.add splitshot or trim bobber so it barely floats.when fish bites let him run out 6ft or so of line and cross his eyes.when I set right away I would miss some, like they just had the minnow head.

I use a dedicated Deadstick with a swivel, then 18" of fluorocarbon to a jig head. Reverse hook the walleye minnow. Watch the rod bounce, load up and set the hook on it.
