We use a floating alligator in our pond. We got it specifically for the raccoons which had eaten a bunch of our koi. But it works for the herons, ducks, and geese too. We actually got the idea from my wife's brother who uses his gator in his pool to keep the canada geese from crapping up the water and the surrounding deck. They have an eyelet so they can be tied off to a dock or anchored to something and will float around with current. I was skeptical at first since I figured the raccoons wouldn't even know what a gator was but I was proven wrong, must be instinct. This guide might help: http://www.gardenandpatiohomeguide.com/the-complete-alligator-decoy-guide/

One of our local golf coarses had a big problem with geese. My stepfather golfed there and he was told that they applied something to the grass that kept them away. I don't know what it was, but i do know that it worked. Maybe you could check with some golf coarses in your area to see if they have a similar problem and know what they use.

That's a smart idea, golf course are magnets for geese, and it's the courses' business to make sure there's no crap on the green, so they must have an efficient solution.
