Was Incredible!!
I couldn't make it to camp the first week because I had to wait for my two teenage boys to get out of school for Thanksgiving. My oldest son is in his 1st year at Mich Tech in Houghton, and my youngest is a junior at Novi High.
My bro was at camp with two of his boys, a college buddy of mine and another friend for the first week. They saw few deer and my oldest nephew shot the only buck that week, a 151 lb. 8-pt.
They were getting hammered with snow, and when they finally decided to leave they couldn't get out with their quads.
So they went back to camp and called around to find somebody with a snowmobile to rescue them. At that point we decided there wasn't going to be a second week at deer camp this year because of the snow.
Then it started to melt and rain for two straight days which really knocked down the snow. Knowing that we only have two more years at our camp we decided to go for it and hope for the best.
We packed light and hit the roads which were snow covered and slippery from Grayling all the way up.
My bro went into camp ahead of us while we were driving up and texted us to tell us that deer where everywhere. He texted back to tell me his son just shot a 4-pt right when they arrived at camp.
Getting into camp was rough. We had an old beater snowmobile, a borrowed quad and my Rhino. My Rhino was too heavy and kept breaking through the ice on the large puddles (ponds) and never made it to camp. I trailered it 1,200 miles for nothing.
The last 10 miles before camp we started seeing "lots" of deer sign, and deer too. Our camp is three miles into the woods from our trucks. While on our way in we saw fresh deer tracks everywhere like we've never seen before in our 30 years at our camp.
