Supposed to be able to get free wood chips.

We're not in an area where many arborists use it, but still managed to get one for wood chips. And still have a significant pile of Oak Chips to use or compost.

As mentioned, it's a crapshoot as to whether you'll be contacted beforehand. And there is no control over the quantity. My drop was a dump bed on the back of an F350. There's video out there of people getting full size dump truck loads.

You can also sign up for logs, but I've never been lucky enough. I was contacted once, guy from downstate had a job up here. TONS of Oak. Came over, made arrangements where to dump the logs etc. Never saw him again. Heard through the grapevine he figured out he could get paid for them elsewhere.

Didn't think you hired him just to get chips. They must be close to the barn.
Had Consumers out last year for advise on dropping a dead pine next to the house wires. He said call when ready and they will drop the line while I cut and put it back up. If I don't call and the line comes down when I fell the tree, I have to pay for them to come out. Thought they would take the tree down as well, but somehow I have to do it. No worries.
It'll be bonfire wood, chips not needed.

I had a line of Spruce trees in my backyard, along the back fence, where the neighborhood power lines run down the block. I got a note from DTE that they wanted to remove some branches to clear the wires. I called, and told them I was worried that the trees would take down the lines in heavy winds, because they would sway and actually hit the lines. I asked if they'd take all the trees down, to protect the neighborhood, and they did. I left for work with a backyard full of 45 foot Spruce trees, and came back to a wide open fenceline, with all the trees and brush removed. I think they took something like 13, or 17 trees. It was a pretty great deal, since it cost me a phone call. And a lot easier than the 17 trees I removed myself, over the years.
