Calibrating Big Jon line counters?

Does anyone have any problems with the line/cable counter springs on their Big Jon riggers? The springs seemed fairly light/sloppy and too me, it seemed like they werent giving accurate readings everytime. I was thinking that a slightly heavier spring would help keep more tension on the spindle. Is there any easy way of resetting them back to zero? I didnt see a reset switch anywhere. I do have to replace one of the brings anyway because I wasnt paying close enough attention, the cable had a small snarl/backlash and the cable binded back on itself and as I was trying to fix it I was manually realing in the excess cable and hadnt noticed that the spring was stuck on itself and stretching and stretching with each revolution of the spool.............i stretched it beyond repair.:dizzy: It was one of those days for me. I ended up using a doubled up rubberbands as a quick fix but it was just that a "quick fix"

you manually turn the spring to reset them to zero. They do weaken with age. You can get new ones from BJ or a dealer. i've used them on several boats, they do get out of whack once in a while, but only by a few feet ususally.....Just got new Capt packs on my current ride. had Proos on it, these suck!

We run a pair of B-Jons, no real issues. Ya do need to manually adjust the "zero" and ya have to keep an eye of the spring, but rarely for us (maybe 3 times over the course of 25 trips)
I really can't complain...ya need to do maintenance on anything right?
Besides, pocket book says I'm not changin', so I best be happy with what I got;)

I was manually adjusting them when we were out and figured thats how it was set back to zero but I've been guilty of doing alot of things "the hard way". I've fished on boats with canon riggers and agree 100% that their nice..........but I am not gonna complain about the Big Jons......I fish to have fun, not to worry about having "the best" gear money can buy. We got a good deal on them and I am not a millionaire or a professional so if I have to reset the line counter every once in a while no big deal. I drive a Chevy too!
