Bleeding money. Its "that" time of year

Thought I'd saved up a decent amount for the season this year. Was thinking maybe get me some extra stuff. Good thing I held off. My truck is down. Freaking again!!!
I'm hoping for the best but not looking good. I'll know more here come monday.

In the mean time I did order some essentials. Needed another trolling rod cause I got some friends that want to go out and I needed another one so we'll have enough rods.
Got another okuma SST and another cold water reel with line counter. Also got a big spool of toughline braid and some siwash hooks to try on my spoons. I'm going to experiment running some single siwash style and some trebles and see if I notice any difference.

I know this is just the beginning. Already got the time scheduled off so its going to happen even if I have to break out the CC.
Like I said, I'll know more come monday on my truck. Having transmissions problems. Last thing I want is to have it brake down while trying to launch or pull my boat out at the launch.
If I can just get it running right I might see about trading it in on something else.

Yup. 3rd time this truck has let me down. Twice for trans problems and once for blown oil cooler lines. My old silverado trans went out on that one too. GM needs to get they're act together!
I'd say GM sucks but I work on Fords every day and they suck too. Dont even get me started on Dodge.

If I had to choose between spending money on new rods, reels, and other gear, or spending money to make my truck would haul my fishing boat around, I'd spend money on the truck, first.

Sorry to hear your trevails. Hopefully back on the water quickly, with great new stuff.
Truck is most important for sure. But I still need other stuff too.
I'll make it happen one way or another.

I feel ya...just took my truck in to get fixed just for my manistee trip. 2k later. Ac condenser and exhaust manifolds.

Fortunately got the boat out today for some cleaning. All good other then pulling my carb on my 9.9 to clean my low idle jet. Running great now.

Its an expensive hobby...that's for sure.

Pulling the boat on my way home from motague last weekend. Almost home and the check engine light comes on. Also notice that the truck is no longer in tow mode. Also notice that all of a sudden it sounds like ****! Limped home…

next morning, I start her up and everything seems great. Engine light is off. Will go into tow mode. But when I put it in gear, the noise comes back…. Something is very wrong….

2021 GMC AT4 3.0 liter diesel, 10 speed trans. Local shop says the transmission is toast. $7500 to repair.

dawns on me that I have a 5 year, 100k powertrain warranty. Truck has 100,811 miles on it. 😞

Call GM customer support to plead my case. Phone rang twice and a human picked it up. She runs my VIN and confirms I’m 800 miles over warranty. Proceeds to tell me that if I can get it to a GM dealership, they will likely work with me.

Long story short, dealership confirms trany is shot. They call GM and reference my case number. GM decides they want to replace everything…. Not just the failed parts. Trans, torque converter, a bunch of other stuff that I have no idea what it is….

$13, 530. Because I’m only 800 miles over powertrain warranty, GM will pay for 90% if I agree to pay the $1,353. Naturally, I couldn’t sign fast enough…

still worries me though. I had hoped to run this truck into the ground. From what I have learned, these 10 speed transmissions are GARBAGE. my hunch is that I will be lucky to get another 100,000out of this transmission. Chaps my ass. $60k for a new one and they don’t even last a hondo.

I swore off Fords due to my last 2 trucks. And now this w my first GM…. such horseshit! Criminal what they charge! For a truck that won’t even make it 100,000 miles…..

If you are going to keep the truck might as well bite the bullet and Have them do the oil pump belt as well. Make sure they don't double dip on labor as the trans needs to come out to do the belt

Sounds like you should replace the torque converter. GM did many torque converter swaps on the 6 speeds. they were famous for torque converter shutter when they went into lockup. Have pulled many out and they have torque converters in them with reman for GM right on the converters. If yuou do change the torque converter buy an aftermarket one, dont use a GM converter. If they arent too bad usually the lubeguard anti shutter with stop the shutter, but it sounds like yours is too far gone if it wont even hold lockup.

Got a trans and converter ordered through a place called APS. Have no idea how good they are. But they have one. Going to be around 8K when done. Wont have the truck for this weekends trip. "Maybe" by next weekend??? People are counting on me.
Why does this stuff always happen when I got big plans?

Dam, I should have PM'd you, but it sounded like you had a plan setup already. My brother has been rebuilding transmissions for well over 30 years now and has a shop in Almont. Your buddy doesn't rebuild them? Only problem with ordering a trans from somewhere is if you have problems with it. These transmissions are getting so complicated that many times there are small problems with them that need to be addressed. These vehicles nowadays are just computers on wheels. Hope all works out for you and you back on the water in no time.

I kind of had the impression you knew a little about it but I would never want to impose on anyone here.
For whatever reason my friend didn't offer to rebuild my trans. I dont think he does that much anymore. He used to. But he's kind of like me and getting up there. I think he likes having a place to fall back on for warranties too.
That and I'm kind of in a hurry. Was hoping he could just flush it and I could be back in business. He said its not shifting right though. Has codes for shifting out of range and noticeably flaring on up shifts. Probably should have replaced the trans back when we put the converter in it. Saving the money sounded like a good idea at the time. Heck it only had 73k miles on it then.

Good chance he doesn't wanna touch the newer transmissions, they aren't good transmissions. Most newer ones aren't, by the time they figure out what the problems with them are to fix them, they come out with a new transmission.

And it seems to never fail you try and help a buddy out or relative do something cheap and it comes back to bite you. Next thing you know they aren't your friend anymore.

Hopefully all works out for you and your back to fishing again real soon, as the clock is ticking on salmon season.
