Well guys i out grew my 27" carbon arrows and need some new goodies. I just got a 10% cabelas coupon in the mail, so thats where im shopping. My bow will be pulling 60-65lbs at a 28-30" draw length. I want to use rage broadheads 100 grains. I think my bow shoots 304fps if im not mistaken.. I get really confused with the arrow weight and all that so thanks to anyone that can help me! Ps i want carbon arrows if that helps any.

You will be ok as long as you dont biy carbon express. Lol. I hate that company. Are you looking for a 3d target arrow or just hunting arrows? If your just hunting i look for a heavy arrow for more kenetic energy. I shoot a thicker shaft for my 3d so i can cut more lines. In my honest opinion the arrow doesnt really matter unless your a perfect shot and shooting competitivley

Okay we need some information first:

  • Actual draw length, not your bows range
  • Actual draw weight
  • Tip weight
  • Feathers or vanes
  • Arrow rest, this will affect arrow length
  • Arrow length, if your draw length is 28" less your 27" arrows may work but it is hard to advise without seeing the set up.
My advice is go to a pro shop or get with someone who KNOWS what they are doing. The most important step here is matching arrow spine to the bow/shooter. I fix rookie mistakes so often its not funny. It's hard to tell someone who is super excited about shooting that they made a mistake. Indy, I'm not picking on you so please don't take it personal....

1) My draw length is going to be 28-29" i dont know yet bc my arrows are cut to short now.
2)Actual draw weight 60#.
3)Tip weight 100 grain.
4) I want vanes i dont know if the bigger small ones it does not matter to me. 5) I have a apache drop away rest that im going to be using this season.
My draw length will keep changing so i want arrows that will last for a while too. I will be going to a pro to get it tuned but im 16 i just want to save a few dollars and buy stuff with the coupons. Thanks casull

No issues with getting the arrows and saving money. You just need to have your bow set up FIRST then you can choose arrows. Here is something you can do. Have someone measure from the middle of your sternum (breast bone) out to the first crease in your wrist (just before the thumb). This will give you a close but not exact draw length measurement. If you are already 28"+ then you may want to step up a spine size and leave the arrows an inch or 3 long to allow for your growth. Spine is the static stiffness of the arrow shaft, 400, 340, 300 etc are all spine numbers, they do not always equal what is on the arrow box. Let us know what that measurement is and we can give you a little more advice. I assume you will be using a release? BTW as long as the arrow is one inch in front of the rest launcher arm you are good to go...

Ok with what you told me to measure for draw length i got 29 inches. And yes i use a release. So what do u recomend for a spline casull? Thank you!

Just going to ballpark you here. If you want to "grow" with the bow I'd look at a 340 spine arrow (Carbon express = 350, Gold tip Expeditions = 7595, Easton = 340) and cut them to 29" (see bold). Even if you max the DL on the Stinger at 30" this should give you plenty of room. My son draws 31.5 with his Lights out and is shooting 29" arrows. We have a biscuit on the bow so he can get away with a shorter arrow. The 340 spine is going to be more forgiving with broadheads. You could probably skate with a 400 spine for now but I'm guessing you are going to reach 30" and that alone will make the 400 a little harder to tune. Buy your arrows but do not have them cut. If you by the arrows the same shop will cut them as part of the sale but you should get it done AFTER the bow is set up to ensure you have enough clearance. Remember, the Rage blade tips extend PAST the tip of the arrow shaft and you must account for this. Make sure you have enough clearance or you'll be singing the blues when you draw the BH for the first time.

Ok ill use that i for buying my arrows thank very much! One quick question is thE 340 or 400 a heavier shaft? Bc i would rather have more kenetic energy than few fps. Im not insulted by any means if you correct me i would actually appericate it. Thanks

If shooting rages a heavy arrow is required. U need the ke to push that 2" bh through a deer. If you can up your poundage on your bow do it. Rages need a fast heavy arrow with lots of ke to get good pass-thrus.

My bow is at pse bm xs @ 74#
Gt 75-95 28.5"
2" rage
Ibo 290ish

This setup works with rages but could be a bit faster imo.

So then if i want a heavier arrow, i want A 400 spline arrow not a 340? If i have this correct...

Typically the stiffer the spine the heavier the shaft. But all are not created equal. Most companies will call out the grains per inch of the shaft. Go to the Gold tip site and use their arrow building tool and you will see. You can get super heavy arrows at 340 and fairly light arrows at 340. For your purposes the Gold Tip expedition or XT Hunter line, Beman ICS are right where you would want to be.

Hey indi86

I'm working on refitting my old Browning, and while trying to sight it in I wrecked 5 arrows.:yikes:

I'm shooting some Easton auminum super-slams and they're just too fragile for shooting target. I'm looking for some good arrows, so if you're looking for a new home for your carbon arrows, I gladely take hand-me-downs.

If anyone can suggest a cheap, accurate target arrow 4 28" draw @ 70-80# let me know!

Ok guys got all my new stuff yesterday. I got Gold Tip Expedition Hunter 7595 (not cut) and Rage 2-blade 100 grain broad heads (with free practice point). I got other goodies too, just odds and ends... Wildlife Research Center Acorn cover scent, Tinks Vanish field wipes and lastly Dead down wind scent prevent boot&storage powder. Came up at about $94 not bad imo. Thanks guys for all your help and a special thanks to Casull for helping me understand this subject a little bit more.

Well somebody chimed in with recommendations that the Carbon Express (Carbon) arrows I bought at Wallmart the other day were "under spined" for my bow.

So I returned them and exchanged them for a stiffer aluminum, Carbon Express, "Hunting Arrow 2216" And at least for practice so far, they seem very fast and accurate; and still just $3 each...
