I Know this has been discussed before but looking for some good grouping 450 ammo alternatives to the Hornady Black 250 FTX. Shooting a Ruger American 22" my black groupings are averaging 3" @ 100 yds. Trying to tighten my groups to feel confident in moving out to 200 yds. Thanks in advance for any help.

Black box and brown box shoot equally as well out of my cva scout
My buddy at cabelas asked why I wanted black, brown and black same exact just different color boxes. Told him I've shot my gun enough to know different.

Brown softball "sisish" at 200, black box smaller then a baseball. Both kill. But I like most accurate. My gun knows the difference.

OP shoot multiple brands. Maybe your gun likes a different round. Shoot, shoot, shoot some more

Thank guys for all your replies. I have access to a sled. And I wanted to know what other brands and weights that everyone else has been having good performance with out of your guns. Have never shot anything other than Black and willing to try some other brands to elimimate a possibility. I've been shooting this gun for the last 4 years and have checked the zero every year before season at 100 yds. Shooting a minimum of 20 rounds each check and have never had much better grouping than 2.5 inches. I've had to change my hunting stand now to an area where most of my shots will be in 100 - 200 yd. range so I would like to get it a little tighter before I waste alot of ammo practicing out to 200. I havent ruled out that could just be me as I'm not as steady as I used to be. Will give the sled and some different types of ammo a try first before calling in a friend or 2 to try their luck shooting it.

Dump the blacks, the Barnes group also, AND stay together. 100yds,5 rounds
Knew these comments were coming..
I'm 11 for 11 with dead deer with brown and black. I'd say they do just fine for killing ;) bullets I've recovered have held together.

Plumman absolutely try different if that's the best groups you're getting... 450s are much more accurate rifles then that. Good possibility your gun likes different ammo.

Same here! Have had excellent luck with the Hornaday 450 ammo at all distances.

I picked these up last fall. Black Butterfly 275 grain Hex saw. 2050 ft per second. They claim 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards.
I'm shooting a savage 110 with a 3x9 vortex scope.
The target below is shooting off of a bench at 100 yards. I am not a rifle shooter, but man these perform like they say ballistically.
I have not taken a deer with these yet so I can't speak of their knock down power.

My opinion. Polymer tip bullets should only be used where needed - in tube fed magazines.

Any other use is using a bullet of lower ballistic coefficient.

A solid lead/brass jacket is IME likely to have less drop than the same weight polymer tipped b bullet.

My best groupings with the 450 are with match grade (weight) Hornady 245g SP on 37.5g of Lil Gun. (Also match) OAL 2.136.

1 inch groups at 100 yard. 2 - 2.5 inch at 200. ( seems better in higher temps).

Factory polymer tips did not even come close.
