I'll be heading up Sunday morning to join the rest of the crew. Hunting off of 440. Went up last weekend and setup everyone's blinds. Lots of deer sign at every spot. Buck sign at most, scrapes and rubs. Looking forward to the quiet and fresh air and good times with friends. Deer or no deer, fun week be had. I missed it last year due to bitchin Rona. Good luck everyone!

I'm sad to say that I'm probably not hunting in Da' UP this year. First time since 1984! One son moved away to Chicago this week, the other is slowing moving out of the house too. And we all just got back from a great trip to CO last weekend. At least we go some good quality hunting time in out there. It's going to feel strange though. I don't like it. :(

Good luck to all that do go.

The bad news is that I will surely be missing deer camp for the second year in a row. Before last year I had not missed an opener, Ever. Went down on a fast trip and cleaned up the camp a month ago and did the grocery shopping for the crew, though. Have to keep my hand in so to speak.

The good news is that I am aiming the pickup truck west toward Montana early tomorrow for five days of elk hunting. If successful it should be cold enough to bone out the meat, scoot back, and get a couple days of hunting while the meat is being cut up. Hoping that at least one guy is still at camp. Good luck guys. FM
Good luck pat. Have a great trip. Little elk porn from montana for you. Good friends son

on another note the loggers moved in last week and were sitting at my park spot and already started cutting, at least 2-3 spots will be messed up for guys in our camp, luckily i can go further down the road and hunt my sons spot since he isnt able to come up with college classes. Will see if my spot is cleared or not for a backup stand.

You could have an awesome late afternoon spot if the deer don’t migrate out of the area. Lots of browse is on the ground were little existed before. No cold or big snow is in the forecast prior to Thanksgiving. Good luck.

Would the deer move in that quick ,like next week?? Ive had a camera in that spot and only 2 deer in 4 days both small bucks, zero doe with bait on ground....my kids will be back up on thanksgiving so maybe that will still be a decent spot then? thanks

Keep a camera or two on it...
A couple places in the U.P. I hunted , the deer seemed drawn to the saws.
Though it was the dropped browse that interested them.
Sightings were most often not in the downed tops area , but beyond in cover or swamp. Making the new browse availability a night time thing.
One area was mostly pine being cut. Deer still frogged around the logged area after dark. I'm not sure why. Either some other more palatable softwood was mixed in , or they were just passing through , or liked having an open area to frolic in.

Thing was , deer didn't leave the zip code. Just adapted to the disturbance. Often within hearing of saws.

Bait pile wars are peaking right now. As soon as the early crowd heads below the bridge food will be be in shorter supply. Deer require more food as temps drop but I don’t see that in the forecast. By ML season that new browse may be the only food source available in the area. What are they cutting?

Headed to the Western UP (White Pine) early Saturday morning. Looks like the weather is going to be OK....wish some snow accumulation was in the forecast but cloudy and kinda cold is better than warm and sunny. No idea what the deer herd is like....we usually just wing it. This will be the first time my dad won't be at camp this year (due to health issues), so it will be a bit weird. We are all single tag holders so hoping for some bucks with points....but if it comes down to it some spikes/forks may have to come home with us. Good Luck to all!!
