They are commercially caught by Canada in Lake Erie. I know they are sold at Meijer stores under the name "white lake perch" which is wrong. White perch are not at all a perch but a member of the white bass family. Invasive specie that came thru the Welland canal. They are prized fish on the east coast.
I think I got a few to try. If I remember they didn't taste anything like yellow perch but tasted like "fish". I really don't eat anything except perch, walleye and whitefish and some salmon occasionally.
