So we all have seen geese flip upside down to drop altitude quickly. How about ducks? I've only see them get their wings basically perpendicular, or make extreme banks while cupped to drop quickly, but I've yet to see one flip entirely.

Called "maple leafing" due to them looking like maple leaves falling. I see geese do it quite a bit, ducks less often. Folklore I have always hard is that is young birds that do this due to them still learning how to best dump air when coming in for a landing. Maple leafing leads to a huge dump of air until they right themselves. very cool indeed. Something hunters mostly only see....Andy

Wood ducks are the hardest ducks to hit when doing it

Geese a lot of time do it about 150 yards out as they pick up the decoys especially when traveling from altitudes. I have also had them flair after maple leafing. Makes you think "what the hell" just happened

My favorite is hunting geese over a flooded, water spot in a field and they seem to do this a lot
