What’s on your outdoor bookshelf?

A couple years ago someone started a thread on what books members have on their shelf that are outdoors related. I believe it was trout but not sure. I did a search but didn’t find it.

The "Favorite Book/Author" thread in Sound Off reminded me of it and I thought it might be interesting to have another one.

For me it’s pretty slim but I’m working on it.

Shotgunning, The Art and the Science – Bob Brister. I can’t say enough about this book. If you are a clay shooter, wing shooter or just want to know more about fit, patterning, gauges, chokes, shot string, etc, you gotta read this book.

Fred Bear – Charles Kroll (Biography) I believe its out of print but if you can find it, its another must read. There is more to him than the Ted Nugent song.

God, Guns, & Rock ‘N’ Roll – Ted Nugent. Speaking of Uncle Ted, Even if you don’t agree with his boisterous way of getting his point across, it’s a rather entertaining read.

Others include:

Simon & Schusters guide to Mushrooms – Simon & Schuster/Fireside Books
Wild Turkeys. Hunting and Watching – John J. Mettler Jr., DVM
The Fish of a Thousand Casts – Steve Hutchens
Brother Wolf. A Forgotten Promise – Jim Brandenburg
Panfish. The Complete Guide – The Freshwater Angler Series
Standard Catalog of Firearms (several editions)
Magazines include back issues of Varmint Hunter, In-Fisherman, Field & Stream, and other hunting and fishing related magazines.

Firearm catalogs from most of the major players going back several years.

So whats on yours?
Even if its not specifically outdoors related, post it any way. It might be a book of poetry, or a coffee table book of pictures that reminds you of being outdoors. It doesn't matter. Post it.

Thanks. Looking forward to replies.

I have an extensive list of bird books that would take a ton of typing to list... Started my collection in 1974 when I was 8...

Let's see. The book case is right next to me.

"Hell, I was there" - Elmer Kieth
"The Rifle Book" and others - Jack O'Conner
"Book of the Rifle" - Jim Carmichel
"Good Flies" and others - John Gierch
"The Last Saturday in April" - Dirk Fishbach
"Longbows" and others - E. Donnell Thomas
"Come November" - Gene Wensal
"Rubber Legs and Whitetail Hairs" - Pat McManus
"Hunting the Osage Bow" - Dean Torges
"A Thousand Campfires" - Jay Massey
- those are some of my favorites

A bunch of reloading manuals and old Gun Digests.

There would be a lot fewer if I had the internet 10-20 years ago!

Some of the best writing about trout & flyfishing and life
Narrow Escapes by Ben East- an old classic of stories of outdoor adventure and survival
Hunting With the Bow & Arrow and The Adventurous Bowman by Dr. Saxton Pope. Both great reads on early bowhunting in America & Africa.
The Old Ausable by Hazen Miller MD. A terrific book on the history of the Grayling & Ausable River Area.
The River Home & From a Wooden Canoe by Michigan's Jerry Dennis. Wonderful writing about Michigan and outdoor passions.
