What Was Your Longest Shot?

Was having a conversation with a coworker a few days ago about what calibers we like for deer in Zone 3. My friend Bill uses a .450 bushmaster and he's a pretty decent shot. He claims his effective range for his gun is around 300 yards and I tend to believe him. When I told him that I like my Marlin 1894 rifle in .44 mag he replied "but it's only good for about 125 yards". Don't misunderstand, the conversation was friendly. So I asked Bill what was the farthest shot he has ever taken on a deer and made a kill? He said around 90 yards was his farthest.
That got me thinking about the distance of my own kills. I figure I've killed probably 70 deer in my lifetime. I've taken them with a compound bow, 12 gauge shotgun, .50 caliber muzzleloader, 7MM mag rifle, and .44 mag rifle. My longest kill was around 100 yards and with the 7MM. My average kill though, with all the weapons combined that I've listed, is about 10 - 15 yards.
My question is what weapons have you used, what is your farthest confirmed kill, and what is the average for all your kills combined? For the sake of this discussion let's only list Whitetail kills east of the Mississippi River

232 yards with my Winchester 30-06. Also had a 223 on the same trip. I'd say on average my shots have been around 50-75 with the rifle/shotgun and always under 20 with the bow.

My longest was my elk shot in Atlanta at 170 yds with a 7mm mag. When it comes to whitetails my longest is easily only 80-90ish. I can't think of many places in michigan where I have rifle hunted and been able to shoot further.

My oldest son has me beat for sure with whitetails. He shot one in a rye field with an 30-06 at 168 yds....paced off not laser measured. His longest with a 12 ga is 123 yds. He made the 12 ga shot at 14 and the rifle shot at 16 yrs old.

WOW!!!!
The average distance most are posting isn't surprising.
What is surprising are some of the longest distances. I've hunted different States and always thought that Michigan deer hunters were some of the best in the country.
The hunting pressure here is extreme when compared to most states. I guess some of the extreme distances some are posting reflects the fact that when a shot opportunity presents itself you have to make good on it no matter the distance because it may be the only opportunity you get.
Very impressive fellas!

Longest is 302 yards with 7mm Mag. I also poked a doe head on at 235 through the neck. I'm a little older and more ethical now and don't think I would attempt that again. My longest bow kill is 22 yards. Average for gun would probably be around a 100 yards due to a few real real close kills.

.270 130 grain 199 conservative (dressed heavy and short strides) paces, around 400 yards.. Spine and backstraps.
.25-06 100 grain a couple around two hundred yards, plus or minus ten, spot on, low shoulders.
12 Gauge one oz. slugger 100 yards spine.
Blackpowder .50 cal ,490 ball 60 grains of 3F (gone to 2F since for compatibility with other guns) around eighty yards, two ribs cut high and a broken vertebrate.
Most deer under a hundred, next highest right around a hundred, and some almost leaning backwards to shoot.

All I've used for a gun is my TC Pro Hunter 50 cal. Most shots have been 60-120 (20-25 deer). But I did shoot a doe through the heart at 185 last year. All with a good solid rest. Of my 25 or so deer with a bow I think only 2 or 3 were outside 20 yards.

My longest was about 180 yds. with a 30-30. I had watched that deer for 20 mins. and had knelt behind a stump I used for a rest. Coincidentally, I had just put the scope on it.

The longest with my 30-06 was about 145 yds, with my 12 ga. about 125.

My closest was a nice 8 pt. I took when he was about 7 feet away. My average i would guess is about 40 yds.

The longest I have taken is 260 yards in a farm field with a 270. Most of my shots in that field are greater then 150 but when I'm in the trees with the 35 REM all my shots are less than 90 yards. It's all about being comfortable with the shot you are making and using the correct equipment for the hunt. Before I got the 270, and a range finder I tried to make some distance shots with the marlin 35rem and it never worked out. Chock it up to ignorance and lack of experience.
