I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to Noel? I heard something about a scandel once but never got the full story. I sure did like his video's.

Noel shot a deer in the shipping pen of a game ranch
in MO. The ranch asked Noel if they should release it
so he could "hunt" it, he said no, it was too cold.
This was NO run-of-the-mill game farm buck, it was in
the 160's B&C. That was legal. Where he screwed up
was, he hauled it to another state to register it as a
late season bow kill. They tired to get Federal
charges as he crossed a state line, but all they ever
got him on was illegal tagging & registring of the
deer in the state I think it was IL, but I could be
wrong. The fine was minor, like 2K, compared to the
thousands of dollars he lost in business (I still have
one of his tapes)and having his name become a laughing
stock.

I was working a sport show a fews years back and the guy right next to us was a guide/outfitter from Colorado. I don't remember how it came up but he happened to be a very good friend of old Noel. He even had recent pics of the two of them killing everything they could on the African plains. Anyways he claimed that Noel did shoot a good buck in a Game ranch and was bringing it home. But it was the game ranches fault for not giving him the transport tags. Well of course he gets stopped without the proper tags for transport and they then proceeded to his home where they conviscated pretty much everything. Well according to this guy, Noel could of faught it in court and won but after his name and picture were plastered all over the major hunting publications with a bunch of false accusations about him it wasn't worth it. Something about to much $$$ as well to fight all the slander against him so they just cut their losses. Anyways that was the story from a close friend of old Noel....

For the life of me I don't understand why anybody would buy videos or other products from Noel Feather and others like him. Many unscrupulous video producers are committing fraud on hunters that buy their junk. By filming on game farms and by otherwise duping the public into thinking that the animals were actually hunted by fair chase, they are indeed fraudulent. The Noel Feathers of the world give honest hunting video producers a bad name. Videos from Drury Outdoors are the only ones I buy these days. I know both Terry and Mark Drury and their videos feature real hunts in the wild. They are the best ones made.

Prior to the deer-video wave, another name....from 30years ago....that got caught up in a 'deer scandal' was Roger Rothaar.

RR was a real-deal big-buck guy from Ohio who established his reputation through a series of articles in the newly created 'Bowhunter' magazine. He may even have published a book.

That magazine had a big impact on pushing forward the bowhunting phenomena and some of it's editors and featured writers developed loyal followings.

I no longer recall the details of Rothaar's transgression.....maybe an untagged animal?? .....but after that incident became known he no longer showed up in the page of the mag ...if I recall properly.

He did continue...and perhaps still does....marketing his "Snuffer' series of broadheads.

....................

Whatever happened to Dan Fitzgerald?
Whatever happened to Mitch Rompola?

Whit, I believe he also surrendered several other animals that were killed in other states. Do you know if he got those back or not? Were there charges on those?

And yes, the deer was shot in Missouri and he was taking it to Illinois.

Whatever happened to Dan Fitzgerald?

He is still around and has his show, I never was a fan, but to each his own.

Whatever happened to Mitch Rompola?

He's still killing bucks;)
Dan Fitzgerald now hunts with his son Guy. They call themselves Team Fitzgerald. They have a website and hinting show on one of the channels. First hunting show that I've ever heard that truly pushes eating the meat other tha Nugent. As far as Rompola goes, He was a weirdo recluse. Why tell everyone you shot a world record then not have it scored? Smells fishy to this day.

Fitz is cool, I also love the meat hunts. Rompola will always be the King of the Swam up here in 906. Grew up around that camp, no fish-no way. S^%t tons of jealousy though, lots of phony snitch reports to the Warden that led nowhere...Harvesting a world class deer in Michigan, especially north of GR, will be a joy untill you get to town. Then the jealousy and calls to the Warden.

No I am not Noel Feather.:dizzy::shhh: I just love the Noel hatters  The man revolutionized modern bowhunting.
You damn right he did! We all spoken. Bunch of dudes that don’t know the true story of what really happened with Noel’s situation. He was a pioneer of calling big bucks with horn rattling and grunting. My biggest buck came from me learning the skills that Noel taught. A true forefather of bow hunting and calling big whitetail bucks. I’m a fan and always will be of Noel Feathers.

Are Noel hatters like the mad hatters?

Please elaborate on Noel's contributions to "modern bow hunting"

 Sorry for the typo:lol: Noel was the first person I ever saw promote rattling antlers in video. His hunting books are legendary they have the most successful techniques that the most famous hunters use today? How's that??????????

I have a small collection of old Dan Fitzgerald VHS. Back in the day his videos were very entertaining, he may have invented the broadhead through a 50 gal drum test. I especially enjoyed how he verbally ran down anti's, before all this politically correct B.S. of today.

I thought Noel F. was busted shooting a big deer or elk on national park land after a Game Warden recognized the terrain(landmarks) in one of videos.

I thought that it was a transportation issue, but I wish someone would reproduce his grunt call. It was an inhale call that never froze up and sounded great, I have never had a call that worked as well on deer, and then I was cleaning and messed up the reed. Wish I had it back. If anyone knows Dan, I bet he would know what Noel is doing now.
