Wouldn't it be great to have a webcam overlooking the river by hooters or somewhere? We would know when the ice was safe by the number of fisherman and could even tell if they were catching fish.
Here is the Detroit River webcam. You can click to the bottom right of the image and take control of the camera. I have to check on it a couple of times a day to make sure they are still working over in Windsor at Canadian Club.
Garret there is some ice on the river but I wouldn't trust it that much yet this early. By next week whould be safe enough to venture out onto it. Only been frozen for about a day in a half. There was shanty by the genesee street bridge, and looks people where checking ice by ojibway, and above that in spots.
