Sunday was just too nice. . . dragged the little boat to the lake with a flyrod to see what was "up". Got a mixed bag all on a 12 Gold beadhead black nymph. I love sinking those nymphs on the weed edge and see what comes back. Fish seemed to be in 3-5 FOW around the weeds. One nice crappie (where did the others go??), a handful of gills (a few nice ones) and a few small bass. Everything released.

There just something about catching them on a fly that's a kick.

Also started "flyfisher tan". I noticed Monday that I had a weird tan line on the side of my arm. Then I put an imaginery rod in my hand and it all made sense! That cool breeze and virgin skin is a bad combo for setting up a sunburn!!

Looking forward to the season ahead!

I hear ya!

We've been kind of preoccupied with the walleye bite on the Big D and the St. Clair. Around noon on Sunday, we decided to call it quits and searched out some willing takers on the long rod. Don't get me wrong, jiggin's a hoot, but there's something magical about a take on fly. We also found a few gills willing to slurp a well-placed popper, not to mention the countless smallies that couldn't resist the streamers while looking for post-spawn pike.

A new season is upon us and it's time to put all of this Winter's ties to the test.

Personally, I can't wait for the sheephead to stage. :SHOCKED: :lol:
