Alright guys, looking at getting an aluminum boat 17-20ft that I can hit st. clair hard with along with michigan and huron occasionally. Looked at the starcraft fishmaster 196, caters a little more towards the big water though. What do you guys have, and what do you like/dislike? Can't wait for spring!!!

I have a Starcraft Pro-Elite 2000 and bought it new in 2000 and still absolutly love it. The Pro_Elite would for sure fill your needs. It`s great on inland lakes as well. I noticed Starcraft came out with a new aluminum boat this year. It`s called the Futura. I`m going to the boatshow today and hopefully there will be one there. You can`t beat the quality of a Starcraft. You don`t see to many used ones for sale cause thier owners hang on to them. Go to the website at www.starcraftmarine.com and check out the futura. Looks like a nice boat. Good luck with your search and purchase and most of all do your homework.

Here's mine:

I too looked at Starcraft. Thought about the 196 w/ 125hp but it was $3000 more than what I got. $3000 I didn't have at the time. I look for things like storage and where things are situated.
Take your time and find one that fits your needs. How many people would normally go with you? Will you be launching by yourself? Things to think about.

Might want to look into a Tracker Tundra. Excellant ride and dry.

!6-18ft is fine for LSC, for Huron I would like to be in a 18-20ft.

Czar, yup thats a nice boat you got.

I don't know much about the Starcrafts, but I can tell you if I were you I would get a boat in the 20 foot range. Anything smaller and there will be many a day you are going to either stay off the Lk. St.Clair, or take a beating in anything smaller. Even on a day without much wind the chop from the pleasure boaters on the weekends will make it miserable.

I saw the new Starcraft Futura at the boat show today. What a great boat. I talked at length with the Starcraft fishing team. They designed the boat and did an outstanding job. I particularly like the in floor rod storage. Check this one out before you buy. Thanks for the compliment Mike. I sure do love my Czarbarge.

Thanks everyone for your advise. I think I'm going to look at everything I possibly can boat wise before I finally choose one. Gonna head up to the show in tc this weekend. Can't wait to either get some more ice, or some totally open water.
