How deep of water? How fast are you going to troll?
Typically, 1oz for every 10ft of water. But, IMHO once you get to 25 ft and deeper, 3oz,4oz,6oz, 8oz gives you more options. As you can run 3 or 4 rods off each side without boards.

There is no "one size fits all." Depends on depth, speed and current. I much prefer the unpainted ones over the painted ones, though.

Ontario is one rod per person, so its usually rod in hand with the tanic water they have, at least above the bridge, when we go up for the first 10 days of the opener we typically are fishing the river for our "eaters" but when we want the 1 above 18" we go to the lake where we target the 10-15' range for our bigger ones, so to answer your question I would use 1-2 oz at the MOST however I only use crankbaits for the "challenge". The 1-2 oz bottom bouncer is pertaining to the lake only!!
