This morning I decided to try out a spot that I have neglected for years and I opted for the switch rod instead of the usual spinning gear.I was hoping for a calm day to go, but the forecast showed nothing except wind for days so it looked like today was as good as it was going to get. We thought the chop might help us a bit though since we would be fishing around 5 feet or less of gin clear water. I tied on a craft fur clouser with brass eyes and lobed a cast out with the wind into what looked like deeper water. I counted to three and began my retrieve. Two strips in and this guy is thumping and taking line. That was the only bite for the morning, but I can't wait to try again.

Pretty sweet! I'm guessing that was a Brook Trout.

I've only caught a handful of Splake but do they ever develop the pink spots with the blue halos like Brook Trout?

Are there any other identifying characteristics to tell them apart?
