If it’s for a kicker motor buy an itroll and don’t look back. Much higher quality and if you need help they will be there to answer phone / email.

I own both the trollmaster 2 and the 3. The 2 is wired and the 3 is wireless. I have not used the 3 yet as that boat rarely gets out of the shop. Both units are setup on Yamaha 9.9 high thrust kicker motors.

I installed the 2 on my everyday boat because I didn't want/need an extra remote. Plus, I much preferred the dial throttle control over the worry of having to hit a button over and over again. I can say that I'll never own another kicker without one of these units. Whether it is i-troll or Trollmaster. It is very easy to really fine tune your throttle and repeat it.

That said, I will say that the yamaha kicker installation kit is less than be desired. It isn't the fault of the company but rather how the engine is built and the way to which they connect the throttle cable engagement. Mercury and some of the other units use a hard rod to connect from the servo so the sensitivity is repeatable every time. Say you are trolling at 1.3 and your setting on the control is 13, with those motors, you pretty much dial right back to 13 and you are at 1.3. With the yamaha, they use a cable with a loop. Although you adjust out the most play possible with the servo, that loop still has play when you go to the neutral position thus 1.3 "might" be a 13 setting one time and a 16 setting the next. Not a huge deal as you still have unlimited adjustment and fine tuning. Something that takes time trying to do with the hand throttle on the kicker.

I'm not sure about installing panther steer or some of the other options you can do with the Trollmast 3 as I really don't have a use for it as I use my bow mount for steering.
There was a Marina out of Florida that my dad ordered the 3 from that was much cheaper than most of the other places. I'll have to see if I remember to ask him the place. I ordered mine from Walmart.com believe it or not.

Everyone says itroll so it must work well, I never owned one so that's a good option

I do own a trolllmaster 3 wireless and been using going on 3 years without any issues

I did have to find the sweet spot setting the cable slack going to the servo motor

Would I buy another one, yes

Only downside with the wireless remote tends to go thru batteries, I called them last year to see if they would be coming out with a rechargeable remote and they said sometime in the near future

Look at partsvu.com out of Florida for best pricing

No matter what kind you buy they are worth it .I would never have a kicker motor without one .I did have a servo go bad so i carry a spare now takes a week or more to get a new one a bummer if your on vacation .I also recommend the wireless steering i use the panther system .

What I decided on was a tiller steer kicker with an iTroll at the helm. Still need to pick out a quick disconnect steering bar and will wire a kill switch to the helm. It would be badass if the steering buttons on the iTroll could shift the kicker to forward or reverse. But since you can’t run tiller control and a remote box at the same time, tiller plus iTroll seems like the best compromise. The trollmaster isn’t a bad product, but the hunt mode feature is something I really want.

I put the itroll on this spring and it’s made life so much easier. The quality is just higher and the servo is water proof and covered under the warranty

Had the trollmaster 2. Have the Itroll and they're not even close, the itroll is much better throttle control. Itroll all day long for me. I'm actually going to add a trim switch and start button to my helm and remove the tiller handle. Went with the tiller because I didn't need/want the remote control kit. Removing the tiller will give me a little more tilt since my handle hits the deck. The gearbox doesn't fully clear the water now.

I have had 2 TrollMaster controllers and they were good at first. After original owner sold the company, they went down hill in quality and service. I now have an ITroll and it is so much better than TrollMaster, in quality and service. They are a little more money but they have way more feature and are made rock solid.

Thanks guys for your imput.I have decided that ITroll or trollmaster does not fit for me. The last three days on the water has shown me making some fine catches on sharp turns with a real burst in speed. I do this on the inside corners of the structure. Variable speed slowing down and then gunning it have also entice some fish to meet up me. with these warmer water conditions speed "Kills". It really excites the fish into striking.
A short video from years ago My good friend Don Dickson.
Dons trolling a spoonplug at 8-10 MPH. I have not hit a fish at that speed but I have taken them, Bass, Pike and Musky at 6.3-6.8 mph
