Trolling plate question

I’m currently looking at putting a trolling plate on my new to me tracker. I’m running a 50hp mercury 2-stroke. The trolling plate I’m going with is the easy troller but there are two different models. The short model is rated for up to a 50hp and the standard is 50hp and above. Does anyone here run this same trolling plate? Hoping someone has the same motor and can give me some insight on which one to purchase.

I am not sure how much this applies anymore but I used to have a 50 hp Johnson and was talking to the repairman at the marina about putting on a trolling plate when he was fixing my lower unit. At that time he told me to never put a trolling plate on an outboard as it would cause them to run hotter for some reason.(I think it was because of water flow but not sure) For that reason I have always used either a kicker motor or my electric troller. You might want to talk to a marine mechanic prior to going that route.

As I stated I am not sure if this applies anymore but it does not cost anything to ask the question from someone that might have knowledge in this area. It is a lot cheaper than trying to repair a 50 engine.

Newer bigger motors might be the question to ask. As to smaller newer ones and some oldies, no issues. Only issues is the waranty can/will be voided since you drilled holes in motor. Not a overheating issue.
Mines a 2006 so there definitely isn’t any warranty left in her.

The easy troller has a spring loaded back on it too. That’s why I picked it because I know I’ll definitely forget about it a time or two. Haha

I have the Easy Troller and their fins. Lost 2-3 mph but happy with it. First time out after installation I made a short full throttle run with the plate down, didn't hurt it a bit. During installation I tied the rope without the outdrive down completely, that left it too short which tripped once down all the way. Another thing that is a common complaint and has already happened to mine is the rope breaks at the trip arm eye. Fixes are out there if you look hard enough. Tried wrapping the rope with black tape but couldn't get it through the eyelet. Need to drill that hole maybe .010" larger.
