Have a question for the guys who are more mechanical than I

I troll Lake Erie have a Chevy 350 I/O (Volvo) and use drift socks to get down around 2.2mph. After trolling for a few hours my coil overheats so that the engine wont start. Have to take it off out it in ice wait a few minutes and then it starts fine.

Is this just because running at low RPM's or is it a symptom of a bigger problem

Any thoughts would be appreciated.........thanks

Take a look at the top of that coil with a magnifying glass. You might find a hairline crack that opens up when the coil gets hot and expands. Had that happen many years ago with a '65 Chevy I had. Wouldn't start one night after cruising around. Popped the hood in the dark and turned the key, you could see the coil arcing. New coil solved my problem. Not sure if it will solve yours.
