I only have owned the same PENN 209, 210 level winds for 10-15 years. The gear ratio is not the best, but with a full spool it picks up fast enough. Replaced drag washers last year on the older ones after years of dependible service. The price was right at the time I picked up rod and reel combos for under $50.00.

I'll fill them with 20 lb Maxima for spring/summer, and 30lb pink ANDE for later in the fall.

I have 4 Shimano Triton reels that I have been using since '86, never had a problem with them, nice smooth drag. I started with 14 lb Trilene, but have been using 17 lb Trilene XL.
Largest salmon I boated was just short of 26 lbs.

I also have 4 that I got in 87'. I only had a problem with one (my-fault) I had a piece of line get behind the spool and was causing it to bind. No other problems at all these do have very good drags.
