When using my climbing stand I always hook my saftey harness to the top portion of the climber untill I get all the way up the tree.

Then I attach it to the tree.

I was telling my friend about my method and how at least you will be held against the tree it you fall.

So he started doing the same thing this year.

Well Saturday his chain on his api grand slam broke.

Luckly he wasn't that far off the ground and he is ok.

I sure am glad he decided to start hooking him self up for the climb.

His chain busted for no apparent reson we couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Good thing he wasn't all the way up..

I always worry about the chain on mine. How old was it? Was it rusty? Glad to hear that he wasnt hurt.

I am glad he was alright!

I am especially concerned as I have an API Grand Slam Climber. Was it a newer model? My chain looks kinda like a motorcycle chain...seemed like it would take a lot for it to break!

Api has had numerous recalls I believe...out of business now.
Glad to hear your friend is all right. Tell him to pitch that pos Api and buy a Summit.
