I have a buddy that has a cabin up in traverse city on the bordman river. We are thinking of having a ice fishing camp up there this year. I've never ice fished around there and are looking for some decent lakes to ice fish in that area. It will be 5-6 guys that love the outdoors and most of us are still learing the ice fishing ropes. We have the equipment and look like ice fisherman just need to get out a bit more. If anybody could name a few lakes in the area that would be great. Not looking for "honey holes" just some bodies of water to try. I did a search and didn't come up with much. Any and all info is very much appreciated. PM me if you wish.

The cabin is located in this area:

2 miles from the intersection of Garfield and River Rd. in East Bay Twp.

Thanks,

FF

Lake selection has dwindled some but what's your species of choice and what kind of radius do you have in mind?

Welcome to the site Escanaba....

We are looking to catch perch, gills and walleye. If we can get everyone together it will prolly be at least two days of fishing. Willing to travel to different lakes.

I'm in the group with these fellas. Escanaba, you need to fill out your profile to let people know a little bit abiout yourself. You'll get better feedback, trust me. ;)

We've got the go-ahead for mid-february use of the cabin. How is the bay? (E or W?)

Bays are wide open as is the north end of Leelanau and I just heard this AM that Green is open again too.

End of last week they were getting numbers of perch on Little Traverse (Leelanau Cty) but they were walking quite aways off the PA. Still on South end of Leelanau as of Monday but reports of much sorting.

I'd try Spider or Arbutus for gills, those are close by and should be fine if you stay off the narrows.

With the current ice conditions I haven't heard of anyone after 'eyes but hopefully someone else comes through with that information.

green lake, access next to the interlochen school, is great for smelt, and im told some trout. Skeegeomont (sp?) has access off of 72 between kalkakastan and t.c., great fishing for pan fish, walleyes, muskelunge, gar pike, notherns, you name it, its in there. Plus there is a gentelmens club about two miles down the road from the launch. Or so im told. Ice up here stinks right now, if there is any at all. FYI it has been raining all day long, again, today.

Nope, haven't been out yet. If and when we get some ice and I get out and I was to see someone on that lake I'd come over, not a lot of guys there usually,I'd guess it was you;)

This wouldn't be the infamous 'Athletic Club' would it? If so, it closed down approx a year ago. Are there others I do not know of?
