Use to know an old Native American, that lived in a tar-paper shack,in a neighbors woods. He drank "Muskatel",all day long and,I,don't know of anything other than trapping that he did for money.I'm not sure if that was his only income. He's been dead for over 25years. I'm not really sure how he ended up there.I, used to give him rides to town to get his wine. What a character. The drunker he got,the more dangerous and anti-social he became. The last time,I,seen him he pulled a hatchet on me because,I,wouldn't take him back to town when he dropped and broke the bottles,I,had just taken him to get. That was in 1973,and,I,never saw him again.

The guy who gave me my apprenticeship does. He also bought furs and deer pelts to. However he did supplement his income by working with underground cable contractors in the summer months. Not technically a full time fur man. But as close as you could get in todays age. He leases large tracts of land and piles up lots of fur in the winter. Over 5,000 rats alone last year! I have not spoken to anyone about him this year. However he was a rare find!!!! Most folks (myself included) are more "trappers for enjoyment" type folks. I have done a few nuisance jobs in my area and points north. But it really would take big ones to make a full time committment. Look in the yellow pages though for animal control folks. There are some who still do.
