To give you a little history first. Jethro [Jeff] and his dad Jeff Sr. hunted with me last year on the late season opener. Bad luck struck us down as some guy,,,won't call him a hunter,,,tried sneaking up on over thousand geese on the water,,,then blasting at them as they flew around,,,well, needless to say that didn't make them real receptive to going to a corn field without being paranoid. We left, had something to eat and proceded to hunt another location,,,,well these geese wanted the field North of us and once a few flocks landed there it was katy hold the door,,,every goose from then on be-lined for that field. A sad story I know:(

Jeff Sr. said he had such a rush with geese coming and going with some working a bit but most just flying by that he had to do it again and hadn't done the goose thing very much. Actually the perfect hunters, even though we never took the safety's off they had a great time. Well it was pay back time this time. Had a great hunt,,,even though they just wouldn't quite center punch us,,,most of the shooting came off the right side,,we just swtched hunter after they shot their 2 birds. We had a few land in the dekes,,,overall a good day afield. A few hundred geese came as we were picking the stuff up. 13 geese and one crip we just couldn't find after 3 of us and a dog walked looking for about a 1/2 hour with a dog:( I even went back and looked later,,,,a needle in a haystack, man I hate loosing a bird. There was a slight rise in the field and he was gliding down but we just couldn't pin point the landing zone. He went down like a goose that died in flight hard one to mark. Anyway we counted it as a goose in hand. We could have easily shot one more for a 14 bird in hand limit out of the 2 or 300 that came while we were picking up or leaving.

Jeff, just wanted to say,,,A great bunch of guys,,,,you folks are welcome anytime. Oh yea,,,,good shooters too. Man that hevy shot is devistating.

Everything revolves around weather in the late season. Blue skys and little wind means, few birds take to flight till the last thing in the day, sometimes even after shooting time:( Extreme cold can be similar or even worse,,,they never move all day. Temps between 10 degrees or higher and over cast skys, birds will fly. We have killed them under all of the above situations but generally it holds true though. Luck is real important with weather on any hunt but especially in the January hunt. Look at it this way, if you get the weather,,,you probably will get some birds, if you don't get the right weather,,,,you get to know the others hunting with you a little better:) It's hunting,,,who really knows on any given day. I'm not like some services,,,,I won't blow smoke up anyones rear to get you to book,,,,I tell what can happen and let folks know,,,,I really have no control over the weather,,,other hunters and whether the birds will do what we want them to, thankfully most times the stars all align and luck shines on us,,,,but sometimes it does't. In this business your a hero one day and whatever the next. It helps when you instill some reality in the hunters on expectations. I have a good repeat business and most have had limit or good shooting hunts and some of the same folks have never taken the safeties off on hunts. I didn't over sell to much did I:)

Mike-
On behalf of the entire group-
Thanks again for a first class hunt with a first class hunter.

Getting on the "x" is'nt a very easy task, but when everything comes together and the birds seem work in like they're on strings, WoW:D A great time with some great memories.

..limit or none, a day in the fields of michigan, with good friends and good conversation is what it's all about.
Best of luck to you and see ya next season.:)
